Mary Patricia OKeefe, 86, a long time resident of Anaheim, passed away peacefully in her home on January 15, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. Mary, the daughter of Irish immigrants, was born at St. Vincents Hospital in Los Angeles in 1925, the oldest of five children. She is preceded in death by her #4 son Tommy who died in a hang-gliding accident in 1979 at the age of 25 and her newborn granddaughter Danielle Nielsen in 1990. She also lost the love of her life, Larry, whom she married in 1949. Larry died in 1986 after a brief battle with cancer. Larry and Mary had twelve children together and today they are survived by Larry and Jeannie OKeefe (Topeka,Kansas) and their eight children (Lorra (Matt) Wells, Becky (Kevin) Lumert, Shannon (Trey) Smith, David (Jamie) OKeefe, Kelli (Matt) Hummert, Katie, Mollie and Joey OKeefe ; #2 Son, Dan OKeefe (Redlands); #3 son, Jimmy (Kathy) OKeefe (Leesburg, VA), and their five children; Tommy (Melissa) OKeefe, Trevor (Lindsay) OKeefe, Katelyn (Hector) Lucas, Casey OKeefe and Kyle OKeefe; Daughter, Mary Ann (Dan) Vincent (Yorba Linda, CA) and their children Melissa (James) Cochran, Matthew (Christine) Carrillo-Vincent and Michael Vincent; Daughter Kate (Bill) Domino and their four children; Brian, Megan, Amy and Mary Kate; Patty OKeefe (Tustin Ranch, CA); Eileen (Bill) Kearns(Buena Park) and their two children Lauren and Tim; Maureen (Craig) Nielsen (Corona) and their twin daughters Kimberly and Christina. Son, Sean (Kelly) OKeefe (Santa Ana) and daughter Caleigh; Son, Mike (Tammy) OKeefe (Englewood, CO) and their children Kayla and Christopher and her special daughter, Sharon OKeefe who lived with Mary in Anaheim. The legacy of Larry and Mary resulted in 12 children; 28 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Marys strong faith in God and involvement in the Catholic Church were central to her life. In addition to her faith and family, Marys passions in life included her love of Bingo and Bowling. Mary described both of these groups as her Family . Mary loved her Bowling Family at Carter Lanes where she served the Happy Travelers league as secretary for many years organizing the twice per year trips to Las Vegas and Laughlin for sweepstakes. In addition, Mary could be found every Friday night at St. Anthony Claret with her Bingo family and her Buddies in the Knights of Columbus. Mary lived a full life and was truly blessed by her family and friends and she will be deeply missed. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Sharon OKeefe Special Needs Trust (to be established) c/o Mary Ann Vincent 527 Century Dr. Anaheim, CA 92805. A vigil service will be held Saturday, January 21, 2012, at 9:30 AM, followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 AM at St. Anthony Claret Catholic Church, 1450 E. La Palma Avenue, Anaheim, CA 92805. Immediately following the funeral mass, a reception will be held in the parish hall.
