Joyce Sue Louie was born on January 11, 1936, in Guangzhou, China. She immigrated to the United States, seeking new opportunities with her mother and sister, Jane. It was during this transformative period that she attended Galileo High School in San Francisco, California and she crossed paths with her future husband, Stanley Ack Kwong Louie. On June 23, 1958, she embarked on a new chapter of her life when she married Stanley. Together, they quickly moved to New Jersey where Stanley was stationed to serve in the United States Army. As an army wife, she embraced the challenges and adventures that came with military life, residing in New Jersey as she was far away from family and friends. After Stanley was honorably discharged, they moved to Fullerton, California where they purchased their first home and then moved to Placentia, California where she would live out the rest of her years. As a permanent resident of Southern California and the place where she would start her family, she owned and managed a small Chinese restaurant, Ho Toy, alongside her mother. She later sold the business and began work as a food service worker with Fullerton Joint Union High School District. Despite the demands of working full time and raising a family, Joyce poured her heart into both endeavors, balancing her roles as a devoted wife, loving mother, and dedicated employee. Together with Stanley, she raised four children in a loving home, where she instilled in them the values of compassion, faith, and perseverance. Her early years laid the foundation for a life of service, love, and unwavering devotion to her family and community.
A devout member of the Chinese Baptist Church of Orange County, Joyce lived out her faith with a profound commitment to service. She was actively involved in the Food Ministry giving of her time and talents to support those in need. Whether it was preparing luncheons or organizing events at the church, she approached each task with grace and humility. In addition, Joyce was an active member of the school community as she served on the PTA and Booster Clubs. She was recognized for her exceptional dedication and honored as a recipient of the prestigious Ada May Warner Service Award.
Beyond her church community, Joyce also dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her family. Her children and grandchildren were the center of her world, and she poured her heart and soul into nurturing and supporting them. Her love knew no bounds, and she always put their needs above her own, offering guidance and wisdom every step of the way.
