Jesus was born August 1, 1937 in Cananea, Sonora, Mexico to Ignacio Bojorquez and Antonia Gonzalez. The eldest of 5 children, Jesus was born to meager means, this forged his appetite for hard work, ambition, and armed him with a stubborn attitude. The first in his family to graduate from college and earn a degree in Marketing and advertising, he held many prominent positions with future employers.
One of those early employers was the company, Anderson Clayton, where a young woman caught his eye, her name was Liliana. Repeatedly shutting him down, in her own words “de esas pulgas no brincan en mi petate”, which roughly translates to “I’m out of your league”. Over the next 5 years, Jesus excelled in a variety of different jobs. In that time he also built a friendship with this girl that caught his eye. Liliana even tried setting him up with a friend of hers, but our stubborn Father had his mind set and the day came where he got his chance. She had a fight with her boyfriend at the time and she allowed Jesus to take her out for coffee. Three months later they walked down the aisle on August 1, 1968 in Mexico City. He always told me he made his Birthday even more special that day, sharing it and his life with Liliana.
10 months later they gave birth to their first son, Carlos. Two years later their second, Alex, was born. And with one last shot at possibly having a girl, 6 years later he, of course, gave her one more son, Jessee.
Our Father was the definition of “find something you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life”, he truly LOVED what he did. You would have thought he had the Nuclear codes because his briefcase was always with him. He probably made sure that it was packed for any excursion before any of us were accounted for. He would be the only one on a crowded beach with a briefcase open on his lap while we enjoyed the sand and water. While it may have seemed at times that his work came first, we all knew he worked so hard to give Liliana and his sons a life he never had and we are forever grateful.
His work ethic led him to be a pioneer in his Industry. Some of his proudest accomplishments were: • Giving himself and his family the American Dream.• Introducing Jalapeño peppers to Disneyland• Initiating the first Mexican food company to have a USA company (Herdez)• Introducing lobbying, presenting, and having President Ronald Reagan sign an exemption of duties for Nopalitos.• Helping countless brands/Manufacturers to distribute products on a local, regional, and national level in the US and Mexico. • Helping to set a Guiness world record for the largest Tamale.
• Founded, with our Mother, Bojorquez Trading Co. Inc. in 1983. where he somehow managed to circumvent child labor laws and convinced us all to be there to this day.
In 2008 at the age of 70 years old, Jesus was offered a job despite being forced by his family to retire at the age of 64. With our Mother not denying him one more round of glory, these two went on their way to a 9 month adventure in China to teach chefs how to cook with the corn flour he made a success in the United States.
Jesus loved watching baseball, soccer, and boxing. He also loved cooking or trying a new cuisine. And, of course, creating new memories with his grandchildren.
There wasn’t a beat he wouldn’t try to dance to (we have lots of videos to prove it!) There wasn’t a restaurant he wouldn’t try to ask for tortillas. There wasn’t a stranger he didn’t ask, “where are you from?,” and want to learn all about them. No matter what they were doing.
No one will argue that Jesus wasn’t a stubborn grumpy workaholic who liked to push buttons and had the mouth of a sailor. But all those quirks were immensely overshadowed by his kindness to everyone he met. His passion for what he loved to do. Devotion to his soul mate. And the love and support he gave to his family.
He would want all of us reading this to keep living our lives and strive for the very best we can achieve. Fill it with adventures near and far. And make sure that the people closest to you know you love them with every ounce of your being.
Everybody has a Jesus story and we’d like to hear them all. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday July 29, 2021 at 10 am St. Martins De Porres Church 19767 Yorba Linda BLVD. Yorba Linda CA. 92886
Reception to follow at LAKE PARK Yorba Linda 3700 Rose Dr, Yorba Linda, CA 92886(Hall in front of the lake.)
No flowers, please. The family is seeking donations to offset the expense of publishing an exceedingly long obituary which would have really pissed our Dad off. So, if you feel compelled to waste your hard earned money to honor his memory, donations may be sent to Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation https://www.alzinfo.org/donate/donation_form/
