Nona moved often as a child, attending schools in Rockford, St. Paul, and ultimately graduating from Lyons Township High School in the Chicago suburbs. There she met her first husband with whom she had three children, Steven, Barbara, and Thomas Kocmoud.
In these years she was known as “Nicki” and their young family lived in Rockford. Later she lived in Amery, WI; again in Rockford, IL; and eventually settled in Loveland, CO for the last three decades of her life.
Nona was a talented artist and throughout her life, she enjoyed various art related jobs including framing, wallpaper sales and interior design work, and even early map drawing.
She loved to laugh with friends, exploring many spiritual realms, and she adored all her gnomes.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Richard) Stinson of MN; son Thomas (Delores) Kocmoud of AZ; eight grandchildren: Nicole (Sam) Walling and Micah (Kate) Stinson of MN; Brandon (Kelsey) Kocmoud, Sean (Mallory) Kocmoud, and Katie Kocmoud, of AZ; Mary KinCannon, Laura (Paul) KinCannon-Hagerling, and Travis (Jenny) Keith of CO; nine great grandchildren (two of whom have Nona’s middle name as their own); nieces, nephews, and friends. She is also survived by her dear friend, Cynthia Corey, who was especially devoted to Nona’s care throughout her final years. She is predeceased by her parents, her brother Thomas W. Newman, and her elder son Steven.
Her family expresses sincere appreciation to the dedicated staff and caregivers at the Greenhouse Homes at Marisol in Loveland. While it is difficult to single out anyone individually amongst this great staff, we wish to especially acknowledge Vanessa, Olive, and Danny. We are also incredibly grateful to Tara, Nona’s dedicated Optum AGNP, and to the Pathways Hospice team, Sarina, Dani, and Erin, who made her last days as comfortable and peaceful as possible, while supporting those closest to Nona.
Arrangements have been made with Resthaven Funeral Home, Fort Collins.
Final services will be private.
