Terry Owen Bristol was born to Morris Bristol and Erma Hollenbeck Bristol on March 9, 1938 in Ansley, NE. Just before his 13th birthday in 1951, originally on their way to settle in the Pacific Northwest, Terry moved with his family to Fort Collins where his parents purchased and managed Milligan Lumber Co. on Wood Street.
Terry attended Lincoln Junior High School and graduated from Fort Collins High School in 1955 where he met Brenda Gross. They were married in 1958 for 60 years until Brenda’s passing in 2019. Terry and Brenda took the trip of a lifetime to Kaua'i, HI with their entire family for their 50th anniversary.
Terry worked for the lumber yard many years and made friends throughout the area by delivering building supplies in his flatbed truck, often with one or more of his sons. He worked for Woodward Governor and managed family properties and investments. Terry had a lifelong interest in the stock market and finances and graduated from Dale Carnegie course training.
Terry found his hope and strength in Jesus and was involved in prayer and church all throughout his life. He especially enjoyed studying the Psalms and Proverbs and singing in the church choir.
Terry took great joy and purpose in being generous with under-resourced people from many walks of life, particularly as a soup kitchen and Salvation Army volunteer. His life exemplified a value for simplicity over the consumerism and materialism so common in our culture.
Terry loved to connect with people through humor, wit, and jokes. For example, “Why do chicken coops have two doors? Because if they had four doors, they would be chicken sedans!"
Terry is survived by five children, Alan Bristol of Fort Collins; Mike (Amanda) Bristol of Colorado Springs with sons Mercer Bristol, Carson Bristol, and McConnell Bristol; Jeff (Darla) Bristol of Fort Collins with children Zachary Bristol, Kate Bristol (fiancé Dave Hollies), Kylee Bristol, Emilee Bristol and Joshua Bristol; Randy (Wendy) Bristol of Denver with children Cameron Bristol, Madeline (Vincent) Dufour, and Marley Bristol; and Amanda Bristol of Fort Collins. He is also survived by his sister Letha and husband Louis of Fort Collins. Terry was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda, his parents, his younger brother, two nieces and a nephew.
Thanks for the love and laughter, Dad. We will miss you, but we will see you again soon.
Terry’s family is especially grateful to the staff at Collinwood Assisted Living and Lemay Avenue Health and Rehab for their wisdom, skill, and compassion and to the residents at Collinwood for their friendship.
There will be a 10:30 AM memorial service on Tuesday, December 13th at Allnutt Drake Chapel located on 650 W Drake Road in Fort Collins with a luncheon to follow. A graveside service will take place after the reception at 2 PM at the Grandview Cemetery located on 1900 W Mountain Ave in Fort Collins.
