Leslie Ball

Leslie was born in his home in Redmesa, CO on May 1, 1926 to Frederic Andrew Ball and Leona Steele Ball. He had 5 siblings – 3 brothers, Elwyn, Lauren, and Rulon; and 2 sisters – Francis and Loree.

Leslie was a WWII veteran. He was drafted on December 6, 1944 and served in the Pacific theater. After the war, he served a 2 year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints.

Leslie married Barbara Dee Hamblin in the LDS Salt Lake Temple just 3 days after his return from his mission. They then moved to Ft. Collins, CO where after 5 years, he graduated with the degree Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in the spring of 1956. Leslie practiced veterinary medicine in a private practice near Farmington, NM for the next 3 years. He then presented himself to the School of Veterinary Medicine at CSU and was immediately hired on a temporary basis for 1 year. He then wound up working there for the remainder of his career, becoming an acknowledged leader in his field of Theriogenology, traveling around the world teaching and lecturing.

The loves of Les’s life were his family, his church, his work, scouting, hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, and tennis. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara; brother, Elwyn; sisters, Francis and Loree; and a son-in-law, Richard. Surviving him are his 7 children, Vaughan (Peggy), Irwin, Sheryl (Len), Diana (Steve); Vallorie (Paul), Cindy, Wendy (Scott), 34 grandchildren, and 78 great-grandchildren.

Les always believed in giving service to others and will sincerely be missed by all who knew him.

A viewing will be held at 9:00 AM with the funeral service to be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 23 at the LDS Lynwood Chapel; 1400 Lynwood Dr. Ft. Collins, CO.
