When we moved to Berthoud Jill was my daughter, Britta's first teacher in Third grade.  I was worried (as mom's are) when moving to a new place about my daughter's transition to Ivy Stockwell Elementary.  Jill had a kind and loving manner and made Britta's first year here so easy.  Later The Kings moved in down the street from us and Britta would pick raspberries from our yard every summer to take to Mrs. King!  As a high school student our daughter,  Hally got to know Mrs. King as she was mom to her very good friends Marshall and Dalton.  I also had the honor of knowing  Jill as a dear friend through the Bunco group which we were both a part of.  She was a wonderful friend, a great listener, teacher and mom/grandma.  She will be greatly missed.  I am deeply saddened at her loss.  Love and healing to The King Family.

It is my greatest wish that Mrs. King’s children and grandchildren know about the many lives she touched and how her kindness and caring will forever be paid forward. Everyone she met, adults and children, knew how much she genuinely cared.  It was a special privilege to have her in our lives. Sending you the many hugs she gave to others. 

Mrs. King was one of the most impactful teachers of my life. In third grade, she empowered me in spelling and stood by me when I struggled to read. My clearest memory of that year was failing a reading quiz, and when I had completely broken down in tears, she gave me a great big hug, offered me another book she knew I could do, and met me with patience and love while I tried again. Even when I left Ivy Stockwell, I came back to volunteer in her classroom so I could get my fix of her kind, gentle, and loving energy. I saw, once again, her love and dedication to each of her students no matter who they were, how they behaved, where they were from, or any other factors that sometimes divide us. 
In high school, when I was able to choose someone to hand me my diploma, I chose her. She cheered and lit up the whole place with her huge smile. I considered graduating high school to be a given, nothing that made me particularly special. But Mrs. King in her presence and love made it momentous and made me feel, as she always did for her students, extraordinary and wonderful. 
I was lucky enough to keep my relationship with her and Mr King throughout my high school and college career occasionally meeting up for coffee or seeing each other in Fort Collins. Each time I was struck by the everlasting and pure light that shines from her. Now, I am grateful and honored to be able to carry that light with me in her memory. Every time I am working with a student that needs another try, or I sing a Spanish/English line-up song she taught me, or give a child one of those tight hugs where she gave, I know she is with me and has forever changed my life and the lives of so many. It is such a blessing to have known her, for me and so many who have gotten to shine in her light. Sending so much love to the King family. 

Mrs. King was one of finest teachers and people I have ever known. I enjoyed helping as a parent in her third grade classroom.  I learned a lot.  Deepest sympathy to her family and friends. 

Mrs. King was my favorite teacher of all time! Her handwriting on the chalk board is etched permanently in my mind. She was so kind and gentle, but firm with all her students. Frankly, I think she's the one who inspired me to want to teach! Thank you Mrs. King. I'm very sad to know she passed so young. I will be praying for Mr. King, her sons, "daughter" and grandbabies.

It's been two decades since Mrs. King gave me the first C I had ever received on a report card. I remember the incident, because I was devastated. 

She had given me the grade in Handwriting, a subject I had nothing but apathy for.  I had already learned to type, and remember scribbling through the worksheets in a fury. I barely managed to stay in the lines. As far as I was concerned, cursive was redundant and unimportant. I would turn them in, ignoring her disappointment as she looked them over. She warned me repeatedly that they weren't up to par, but I shrugged it off. I told her I was trying my best, fingers crossed behind my back. 

But Mrs. King could see right through me. She knew I hadn't tried. She knew I was trying to blow off the whole process, trying to take the easy way out. So, she called my bluff. Report cards came out, and there it was. My first C. I went to her after class, surely it must have been a mistake.

She told me that sometimes, we have to put our full effort into things, even things we don't like or find unimportant. She asked again if I had really tried my hardest. I broke down, and shook my head no. I went home defeated, and cried to my mom. My mom said that I should listen to Mrs. King, and that I would just have to try harder the next quarter. I did, and quickly improved. The next semester I beamed when I managed an A.

20 years later, I was working in a bar after getting my Master's degree. Apathetic about applying for jobs, I was sort of floating through life. Little did I know, the bar was a favorite of Mr. and Mrs. King. I saw them sitting at a table, eating dinner. They immediately recognized me, and Mrs. King gave me a big hug. We got to talking about how I didn't have much going on at the moment. Mrs. King squeezed my arm and told me that I would figure it all out. I remembered her lesson, kicked it in gear, got a better job, and will always remember to do my best, no matter what.

I remember Mrs. King as a very warm, caring teacher. My daughter, Jessica, was in Mrs. Fulka's class in 3rd grade, but their team, along with Mrs. Johnson, worked closely together, so the kids all got to know all of them. Mrs. King had such an amazing way of keeping the kids engaged, always in her gentle, loving manner. I know that all her students were positively impacted by her, and, for some, it really made a lasting difference in their attitude toward school, teachers and learning. We are so sorry for your loss, it is huge and heartbreaking. We will remember her life as joyous and meaningful to so many that were blessed to crossed her path. 

Jill was the first grade teacher for both of my sons and they LOVED her. I am so grateful for her kindness and how caring that she always was. She will be very missed. 

My first memories of Jill were at her parents home in Eagle, she was 9 years younger.  And such a cute little girl with a big smile to match her energetic personality.   Jumping forward with intermittent Memorial Day gatherings  of the Hight family in Gypsum to the 50thh wedding celebration of Jack and Johnette, her spirit set the room aglow.

May her beautiful spirit be with each of you as you travel this earthly path knowing her pain is over and her spirit will always be with you.

I loved Your ability with your skills and intelligence and soul to do everything that was demanded and was willing to assist everybody you are so gifted!   The beauty would you could turn around the next second and Bree is lively in entertaining and fun and silly I will miss jumping rope skipping in singing Christmas songs And children songs and telling rhymes together.You were more than a sister in law you were my sister!!!  PS Jill would always have your back.

I'll always remember first meeting you, Jill, at Bunco and talking about how my daughter would be in Mrs. King's 2nd Grade class at Ivy. You responded with a smile, and said, "Well, I am Mrs. King".  We have had a laugh about that over the years. It was such a joy to not only have you as a friend, but also as a colleague. You were such a role model for us all,  one of the very best and most caring teacher's ever.  I  cherished your friendship. I shall miss our visits and hearing about your loved ones.  I am so very glad you spent the last years enjoying your family and caring  for your grandsons.  Deeply saddened you can no longer.  Love you and miss you.

I was so sad to hear the news of Jill's fight and ultimate passing. I worked with Jill at Ivy Stockwell and was always in awe of her calm presence and her love for her students.  She was a great teacher and colleague  and I enjoyed teaming up with her to meet the needs of my English language learners. My heart goes out to her family, and particularly her children and grandchildren, as I recently lost my mother and now realize it is a blow that you do not recover from, even in time.  I am wishing all of her family peace and strength as they navigate this difficult life journey. I hope your love and memories keep your strong and united as a family as you grieve.

My heart is saddened by the news that Jill’s breast cancer returned so viciously.
I had the great honor of working with Jill at Ivy Stockwell for many years. Few human beings possess the grace and kindness Jill shared with her students, and friends.  Her students gained academic skills, but more than that they gained the knowledge that their teacher honestly cared for each one of them.
I remember long conversations with Jill about her family and the pride she had for them. When grandchildren came her heart was so full of love for them. 
You left a huge impact on me Jill. I will miss you. 

My heart goes out to the King family during this difficult time.  I am 39 years old and I still remember being in Mrs. King's first grade class. She was a woman who's caring left a mark forever.  She was an amazing teacher, loved by so many who's lives she made a difference in. She and Mr. King had a wonderful family with their 2 boys whom are reflections of their parents. I am blessed to have had them in my educational life. Jill king will be an amazing guardian angel for you all ❤  Rest in Peace Mrs. King

My heart is just breaking at the reality that this beautiful woman has gained her Angel's Wings. Mrs. King you were by far one of the best teachers that my boys were blessed to have! You had the kindest and sweetest soul and heart imaginable and were a friend to all whom you met. You helped my boys more than you will ever know and they loved you so much! I remember our talks about our boys and on how you couldn't wait to be a Grandma! Thank you for being such an amazing woman, teacher and friend. I will cherish the Christmas ornament you gave me so long ago even more now!  I love and will miss you dear friend! Thank you for the memories Jill and may you rest in peace. Hugs! ❤🙏🏽❤

I did not know you but I see your light and love for education and children in the eyes of your son, Marshall. You raised a son full of passion and the belief in teaching the whole child. Thank you for sharing him with our students and staff at Brighton. Rest, knowing that your light will continue through him. 

Jill was my daughter’s first grade teacher and reading tutor.  My daughter Kysa would tell you that Mrs. King made the greatest impact on her personally and academically because of how much she cared. Kysa had planned to ask Mrs. King to present her diploma when she graduated from BHS.  
Our heart breaks for the King family.  Jill had a passion for life that was felt by all who knew her.    Our children were beyond blessed to have had such an incredible educator.  She will be so missed.

Jill was one of the kindest and gentlest people I have ever known.  I will miss her deeply.

What I remember most about Jill was how she lit up when talking about her family.  I will miss seeing her walking through the neighborhood with Grayson and Garrett.  How she loved caring for her grandsons.

She never had an unkind word to speak about anyone.

Our neighborhood has lost one of it's most gracious and loving members.
