It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Harry Kull, Jr., a cherished patriarch, devoted sports enthusiast, esteemed college bookstore proprietor, passionate genealogist, and revered Eagle Scout. Harry peacefully departed this world on March 9, 2024, at the age of 95, surrounded by his loving family.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, and beloved wife, Sue. He is survived by his children, Julie Radtke (Jon) of Fort Collins, Jamie Roomy of Plantation, Florida, Laura Duhot (Henri) of Aurora and Griff Kull (Anne) of Windsor as well as his eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his dear sister Ann Lawyer of Memphis, Tennessee.
Harry's journey began on May 21, 1928, in Lexington, Missouri, where he embodied the values of strength, kindness, and integrity instilled by his parents, Harry Kull Sr. and Mary Ellen Kull. Growing up in Norborne and later Richmond, Missouri, Harry emerged as a shining star on the athletic field, excelling in football, basketball, and baseball as a proud Richmond Spartan.
A true embodiment of the Boy Scouts' ethos, Harry achieved the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout, embracing the motto "Be prepared" as a guiding principle throughout his life. His unwavering commitment to service, leadership, and adventure left an enduring mark on his community, inspiring others to follow in his footsteps.
Following his service in the Army during the Korean War, Harry pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor's degree in Business from the University of Missouri. In 1953, he married his childhood sweetheart, Sue Handley, embarking on a lifelong journey filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams.
In 1977, Harry relocated his family to Colorado, where he assumed ownership of the iconic Rams Book Store in Fort Collins. A fixture on the corner of Laurel and Mason for many years, Harry became an integral part of the local business community, forging enduring relationships with employees, customers, and colleagues alike.
A dedicated member of the Downtown Rotary Club, Harry exemplified the organization's commitment to integrity in business. His heroic efforts following the 1997 flood, in which he assisted the campus bookstore's efforts to get back up and running, ensured the university could open on time for the regular academic year. Harry was honored to earn the esteemed Paul Harris Fellowship for his service through the club.
Harry's love for sports knew no bounds, fueling a passion for competition, teamwork, and perseverance that he instilled in his children, grandchildren, and friends alike. Whether cheering from the sidelines at games or fervently supporting his beloved Colorado State Rams and Missouri Tigers, Harry's enthusiasm was contagious.
In addition to his myriad of accomplishments, Harry will be fondly remembered for his boundless kindness, quick wit, and infectious laughter, which brightened the lives of all who knew him. Though Harry may have left this world, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace, knowing he was a cherished father, a respected member of the community, and a beloved friend to many.
