Born in Minneapolis MN, he attended St. Patrick's Elementary School and Bergan Catholic High School in Fremont NE- His college education included Creighton University, Omaha NE, Iowa State University in Ames IA, Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO, and he received his bachelor's degree from University of LaVerne in California.
His U.S. Naval career included 10 years serving as a pilot on an E-2 Hawkeye, a carrier based recon plane during the Vietnam War, two tours on the USS Ranger aircraft carrier in the Tonkin Gulf and one tour in Saigon. He achieved the distinguishing rank of Lieutenant Commander based at Coronado Island, San Diego CA.
The following 15 years Harry was co-owner of The Tire Shoppe, then 14 years in sales for Ed Carroll Motor Co., retiring as General Manager.
Harry realized the importance of community and served in the Overland Sertoma Club for 40+ years where he made many friends.
As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed water and snow skiing, motorcycling and dirt biking boating, hiking, camping and participated five times in the Ragbrai - 450+ mile bicycle ride across Iowa. He too was an accomplished mechanic, refurbishing multiple cars and motorcycles, always tinkering. Harry was a voracious lover of books, sometimes two to three at a time. He enjoyed reading non-fiction and fiction genres of westerns, crime, mystery, historical and classic literature.
Harry is survived by his wife of 52 years Lucrecia Newman Santner, sons: Keven and Erik Santner and grandson Forest Duran Santner all of Ft. Collins CO.
He was preceded in death by parents Ulric and Rita Santner and brother Tom Santner all of Loveland CO. Other surviving family members are brothers: Dick (Ruth) Santner of Topeka KS, Jim (Joy) Santner of Ft. Collins CO, sisters: Pat Carlson of Littleton CO, Jane (Tom) Mannion of Lake Arrowhead CA, Barb (Mark Hanneman) Santner of Reno NV, plus many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Harry had an infectious laugh, he lived life to the fullest and will be terribly missed by his family and friends.
Harry's celebration of life will be held on Thursday, April 6th, 2023 at 10am at the Veterans Plaza in Spring Canyon Park: 2626 W Horsetooth Road, Fort Collins, CO 80526. Lawn chairs are encouraged.
