Gerald Leroy Hunter

He was born Gerald Leroy Hunter on January 29, 1950, in Kingston, Pennsylvania, to Lester and Nina (Corby) Hunter.

After graduating from high school, he attended college as a full-time student and joined the United States Air Force in April 1969. He served as a photo-imagery and intelligence specialist while on active duty. He was stationed overseas and served one year in Vietnam from 1970–1971 and spent 15 months in Guam from 1972–1974. While on duty, he served with several tactical fighter squadrons and the Strategic Air Command. On June 9, 1973, he married the love of his life and his best friend, Bernice Cluzek. They traveled to Guam and Florida together while he was in the service and later settled in Westminster, Colorado, where they welcomed their daughter, Kristin.

Jerry had a strong passion for the outdoors, photography, cars, motorcycles, and his family. He worked for the City of Boulder as a member of the Parks Department and was a member of the National Recreation and Park Association and the Colorado Parks and Recreation Association. He retired from his manager position at Highlands Ranch Parks and Recreation in 2015, to make more time to spend with his family and his hobbies. He took many trips with his family and his dogs to the Rocky Mountains and enjoyed showing his family and friends the photos he took on his trips.

A strong man of God, Jerry embodied the love, compassion, kindness, and humility of Christ. He lived his life surrounded by the people he loved. Those fortunate enough to know him knew he was always willing to share his stories and spend time with the people he cared deeply for.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Bernice; his daughter, Kristin (Alan); his four grandchildren, Arielle, Benjamin, Noah, and Kielanna Wiedeman; and his five siblings.

His interment will be held on Friday, November 22nd at 11AM at Fort Logan Cemetery. If you plan to join the family, they ask that you arrive by 10:30 AM for the service.

There will be a celebration of life service held in December, the family encourages you to join them then. More details for the celebration will be released soon.
