Emma was born to Louise and Orville Emerson in Little Rock, Arkansas on April 17, 1946. She spent the first few years of her life in Little Rock and when she was four years old, the Emerson family moved to California, where Emma spent the rest of her youth and later began her own family.
Emma was a caretaker all of her life, both of her family as well as in her career. She was very loving, particularly with her family, in the most unconditional manner. Her children were raised with unwavering support from their mother. To Emma, her children were the smartest, most talented, and even best looking children on the planet and she always made sure they knew it. Emma welcomed all into her heart with complete acceptance. Regardless of one’s station in life, she would never pass judgement. Emma was truly and kind and gentle spirit.
Emma was a woman of great faith and conviction. She regularly attended Mass at St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Catholic Parish in Fort Collins, until her health would no longer allow her to do so. She was also a deeply spiritual woman who drew on her Native American heritage. Emma was a very talented artist who enjoyed painting, most often in watercolor. She also loved to cook and to feed her family. She was worldly and well traveled. Emma was very generous, regularly donating to many charities.
Those close to Emma will remember her as a strong woman and a genuinely wonderful person. They will also remember that she was quite witty and very clever. Her children inherited her incredible sense of humor. She instilled in her children the values of life, love, family, and being true to one’s self. Even as the Lord called her home, she remained in good spirits and continued to treat those around, including her caregivers, with the utmost kindness.
Emma Emerson was and remains a vibrant and eternal force. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Emma lives on in the hearts and memories of her family and friends. Surviving Emma are her children, Robert Younghanz (Teresa Weiss), Wendy Younghanz, and Philip Younghanz (Bridget), and her grandchildren, Angel and Katelyn. She is also survived by her sisters, Camille and Cynthia, and her brother, Johnny, as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
