loved ones by her side.
She was born in the Panhandle town of Borger, Texas on May 5, 1943, to the loving
parents of Paul and Mary Mauldin. In her youth, she was glamorous and classy, with a
touch of sass. She and her friends would dance to records playing in the family living
room, snacking and drinking Cokes. She drove a black 1959 Chevy Impala and without
fail, drove her friends to school every day. She was a member of a social club at school
and her creative juices were flowing even back then while decorating for the dances
they had at Teen Town.
Paula graduated from Borger High School in 1961 where she was also a majorette. She
then received her Bachelors of Education from Texas Christian University in 1965 and
was a member of the Chi-Omega sorority. Hoot hoot! She settled in Fort Worth where
she raised her family. She delighted in taking her girls to Mayfest every year, buying
them the cherished flower crowns, and listening to Mark Scott play the glorious St.
Steven’s Presbyterian Church organ.
She was a devoted teacher until her retirement in 2005. We always admired her
commitment to the profession. She taught many ages, but her absolute favorite was
teaching high school. Her favorite subject was government. She was a creative
educator, truly ahead of her time (queue her rap about the Constitution).
Later in life, she moved to Frisco, TX to be closer to her grandkids. She enjoyed
needlepoint, collecting angel decorations, listening to Nora Roberts audiobooks, and
Starbucks.
She is survived by her three daughters, Julie Walker Martin (Corwin Martin) of
Scottsdale, Arizona; Stephanie Nance of Austin, Texas; and Laura Nance Kahlan (Jeff
Kahlan) of Frisco, Texas; as well as three grandchildren, Tyler Reid, Bennett Kahlan,
and Maggie Kahlan; and the countless people she influenced throughout her life.
A Celebration of Life for Paula will be held Saturday, May 22, 2021, at 1:00 PM at
Stonebriar Funeral Home, 10375 Preston Rd., Frisco, Texas 75034. We are asking
everyone to wear colorful attire as we want to celebrate our vibrant Mom.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift in memory of Paula Nance for the Coulter Family
Scholarship Endowed Fund at Trinity University.
