Michelle Sherry Robinson

Michelle was born March 23, 1974 in Olangapo City, Central Luzon, Philippines, where her mother, Bibian (a.k.a.Vicky) Cornell Soldevilla, met and married her father, Thomas Arthur Miché, Jr., who was serving there in the U.S. Navy. Michelle was also blessed to be raised by her “bonus mom,” Robyn Lynn Lachance Miche’, after her mother died of lung and bone cancer on October 16, 1986.

Michelle called many places “home,” including Salinas, California; San Diego, California; North Chicago, Illinois; and Goose Creek, South Carolina. She graduated from Goose Creek High School in 1993, and she attended a year of college at the College of Lake County in Waukegan, Illinois. In 1994, Michelle met Lamont while he was a student at Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Illinois. They were married 3 years later in 1997 and subsequently produced 5 beautiful children: Jacqui, Malik, Antonio, Payton, and Imani. In 2011, she moved from Gurnee, Illinois to Frisco, Texas.

Michelle, or “Mikey” as she was affectionately called as a teen, made friends easily with her inimitable high-pitched laugh, and she was always on the go. Her father proudly recalls that she was the top M&M’s salesperson for her Girl Scout troop. She loved old-school R&B and hip hop, dancing, Janet Jackson and Boyz II Men concerts, Cubs games, and the scariest rides at amusement parks. She was also athletic, always pushing herself to the limit in every sport she attempted, including four Tough Mudder competitions in the final years of her life.

Michelle will also be remembered for her creativity. The Ikea clearance section, a pile of fabric scraps, or a stack of wood set her mind a-whirling faster than a Texas twister. From materials sourced for next-to-nothing, she made gifts for friends and built handy things for her home. She also enjoyed creating her favorite Filipino meal—lumpia, fried rice, and pancit. Indeed, if Michelle wasn’t busy working on one thing or another, she felt lazy. (And lazy is definitely one thing Michelle Robinson was not.) She believed that if you really wanted to do something, you could accomplish it if you worked hard enough and made the necessary sacrifices. To her, “no time” was a sorry excuse masking a lack of true desire. On the rare occasions when she sat still, she enjoyed catching up on her favorite T.V. shows, such as This Is Us, 24, Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, Chicago Med, NCIS, Shark Tank, Law & Order, and anything on the DIY and HGTV channels.

She adored being a big sister to her nine siblings. She played with them when they were little, taught them new things, and took them on outings. Is it no wonder then that Michelle was a talented, devoted mother to five children? Her world revolved around her children. They were her greatest joy, and she loved them “hard and fierce.” Even in Michelle’s final nights on earth, she refused to sleep until all her children were safe at home. Michelle was happiest when she was supporting and cheering on her children at school functions, band competitions, and sporting events. She will be forever remembered as always being the first to volunteer for these activities. Rain or shine, in sickness or health, she was there.

Her service also extended to her friends, neighbors, and community. Even as cancer destroyed her body, when she had little energy, few resources, and minimal time, she found ways to lift others. Days after returning home from brain surgery, Michelle assembled a care package for a sick child. A few weeks after that, she hosted a surprise birthday party for a friend who’d never had a birthday party before. Late last spring, after a long day of difficult medical appointments, Michelle even delivered leftover pizza to a homeless man. Indeed, Michelle, a stalwart member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was truly a disciple of her beloved Savior Jesus Christ and an inspiration to all who knew her.
