It is with warm memories that we celebrate the life of Martha Villegas Espinoza, 70, who passed away on Monday, August 22, 2022, surrounded by family in Frisco, TX. She is remembered as a faithful woman, wife, mother, abuelita/grandmother, sister, and friend.
Martha was born from the union of Maria Medina and Nicolas Espinoza on November 10, 1951, in Jacona, Michoacán, México. She grew up alongside two sisters Esperanza, Maria Elena, and one brother Rafael.
She was raised in Zamora, Michoacán where she completed a technical certificate in administration and helped with the family business, a frutería (fruit shop) in Zamora. She met and married Francisco Villegas from Ecuandureo, Michoacán, and moved to Chicago, IL in 1974 to start a family. Martha had 6 children and dedicated her life to serving and caring for her children and often taking care of the children of the neighborhood before and after school.
On the weekends, she was an active member, devoted Guadalupana, Eucharistic Minister, and a Catechist/Coordinator at St. Mary’s Church in Des Plaines, IL. She was a florist and loved decorating the church for weddings, Quinciañeras, First Communions and for el Dia de la Virgen de Guadalupe every December 12th. Martha was a prayerful woman listening to daily Mass and always praying for her family and friends.
She loved spending time with her familia, gardening and watering her plants and trees, reading magazines, loved shopping, decorating her home, working with her hands either sewing, crocheting, or making crafts. She absolutely loved animals and enjoyed feeing them. She always put others first and helped those in need as well as selling Mary Kay products for over 30 years.
She was a huge soccer fan. A loyal fan of Mexican Soccer teams Las Chivas and Cruz Azul as well as Spanish soccer team, Real Madrid. She loved her Mexican culture, food, traditions, and Mariachi music. She was an excellent cook and loved cooking eggs with pepper for Nico, quesadillas for Judith, chuchitos for Olivia, pozole for Sophia, chilaquiles for Martha, tacos de frijoles for Leo and her specialty arroz Mexicana loved by K’trina and Kayden along with other traditional Mexican meals for her family. She enjoyed being around her children and grandchildren; always smiling, laughing with such joy positive energy.
In 2018, she moved to Frisco, Texas after living in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois for 40+ years to be closer to her children and grandchildren.
Martha is survived by her 5 children and their spouses Martha Elizabeth (Edwin), Jesus Leonardo (Kristle), Sophia Alexandra (Daniel), Judith Fernanda (Hector) and Nicholas Francisco; her sister Maria Elena Espinoza; and grandchildren K’trina Miranda Villegas, Kayden James Villegas, Olivia Loren Rodriguez and Michael Angel Barbaran.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francisco Villegas (11/28/21) and son Francisco Jr. Villegas.
