Karen Jeanne Rowley-Parsons

In loving memory of Karen Jeanne Rowley-Parsons, born on February 6, 1957 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Philip and Virginia (Smith) Rowley. She left a lasting legacy marked by her unwavering love for Broadway musicals, her dedication to researching family genealogy and her impactful career as an educator. Family held a special place in Karen’s heart, and her unwavering love and support enriched the lives of all those around her.

Karen’s academic pursuits took her from the plains of Kansas to the mountains of Colorado. She graduated from Alamosa High School and went on to earn both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado. As an educator, Karen dedicated herself to a life of service. Her teaching career began in Arizona and took her to schools in Kansas and New Mexico, as well. After moving to Texas, Karen found success outside of the classroom, still utilizing her passion for education and her desire to help others.

On July 5, 1985 she embarked on a lifelong journey with her partner in life, Jason Parsons who survives her in the family home. For over 38 years, Karen and Jason launched careers, operated a business, performed live music, traveled in and out of the U.S., and made a home filled with love and support.

Karen had a lifelong love for Broadway musical theater and music in general. Singing, directing, attending live performances, and providing the technical know-how behind the scenes, were all part of her immense delight in the magic of the stage.

A devoted genealogist, Karen’s pursuit of family history was a testament to her curiosity and love for heritage. Her meticulous research not only connected generations but also provided a rich collection of stories and records for her family to cherish.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Virginia, and her niece Cayce. In addition to her husband, Karen is survived by her brothers Jon Rowley and Steve (Abby) Rowley, and her sister Sue Rowley. She leaves behind cherished memories for them along with her nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. Her memory lives on in the hearts of those who were touched by her kindness, generosity and zest for life.

A a celebration of life memorial service for Karen will be held Thursday, February 1, 2024 at 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church, 315 N. Church St., McKinney, TX.
