Joshua was born on August 2,1988 in Miami, Florida to Larry and Carol Kattner. He passed surrounded by his loved ones: his dad and stepmom Linda, sister Kelsey Blacketer and brother-in-law Brad. They are among his survivors as well as nieces Savannah, Madilynn, and Scarlett and nephew Blake and brother Caia, in Brasil. His mother, Carol, passed away in August 2012 and welcomed him with open arms as he entered the gates of Heaven.
His medical care started immediately and lasted throughout his life. Though born in Florida, he moved at 10 months as his dad transferred to Houston. He's a TEXAN. The wonderful people at Texas Children's Hospital helped take care of him to the point that his dad joked he was old enough to date one of the nurses.
Josh lived his life with pure joy and thankfulness. No matter what life threw his way, he always had a positive outlook and never got down on himself. He lived life to his absolute fullest and wasn't about to let circumstance get him down. He always was looking for the positives in life and in people.
Josh LOVED being an uncle. His nieces and nephew were the apples of his eye. He didn't care what it was, how boring or mundane it may have appeared, as long as he was invited and got to witness firsthand their joy and excitement he wanted to be there. Josh also loved making a difference. He loved his latest job because he felt important and like he mattered. Without a doubt he also loved his dog Blaise.
Josh laughed about a lot of things. He had one of the most genuine, beautiful smiles. He could always find a way to make others laugh when they were feeling down. He had a genuinely good heart and rarely saw the negative in people. He was always looking for the good in people. Josh absolutely loved to watch funny TV shows, whether it be young Sheldon or That 70's show he thoroughly enjoyed humor. He also loved to make fun of his dad's hair or as he put it "lack of hair".
Josh learned tenacity and grit. Josh NEVER gave up in life no matter how hard things got, how many hurdles were thrown his way, or how impossible it may have seemed. Unfortunately, he also learned at an early age that life wasn't fair and that people were mean. He didn't let that get him down though and continued to persevere and push through.
I think Josh would want to be remembered as someone who fought hard, never gave up, and loved well. Josh had a heart of gold. He was kind to everyone even when they weren't kind to him. I know he got that from my mother, but it is something I always loved about him. Even when he had a reason to be down and mad, he would look for the silver lining. I hope he is always remembered for his kindness and loving big heart.
