James (Jimmie) Carey Smith was born in Llano, Texas on October 17, 1948. He was preceded in death by his parents; Edwin and Juanita Smith, and brother Kenny. Jimmie attended Llano schools, graduating with the class of 1967. In high school, he participated in track and field, football, basketball, baseball and was on several academic teams. Jimmie was always proud of his hill country roots.
After leaving Llano, Jimmie attended the University of Texas and later earned a Bachelor’s degree in accounting from Texas Tech University. He went on to further his education and graduated from the University of Houston at Clear Lake with an MBA. Jimmie was also proud of his CPA certification.
Jimmie was an avid supporter of IMA (the Institute of Management Accountants), serving in his chapter council and holding global leadership positions. He became an advocate for students and visited many college classrooms advocating for continuing education. At IMA’s Annual Conference in 2017 Jimmie received the Distinguished Member Award for his dedication and service to the organization.
Jimmie’s career in accounting took his family to Houston, Lexington, Kentucky and Dallas. He retired from Oxy Chem as Senior Director of Finance and has since been enjoying retirement after a career spanning forty-three years.
Jimmie leaves behind Sue, his wife of forty- nine years. Other family members include daughter Alyssa, son and daughter in law Jeremy and Nicki, son and daughter in law Craig and Diana, sister Priscilla and grandchildren Christian, Kaleigh, Braylon, Allison, and Logan.
Jimmie would want to be remembered as a loving Christian, husband, father, brother, Papa and friend.
