84. Born in Los Angeles, on September 15, 1937.
He was the 6th of 11 children born to Higinio and Carmen Lozano. It was his time in this large family of faith where Michael learned what it meant to be a servant of God, and a friend and inspiration to everyone he met.
Michael attended St. Alphonsus Elementary School in Fresno, where he met the love of his
life Dolores, and together they went on to graduate from San Joaquin Memorial High School.
After dating, Mike and Dolores married on November 15, 1958. They enjoyed 62 years of
marriage, raising their 5 sons together. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather,
brother, uncle, Nino, and friend to everyone he met.
A devout Catholic, Michael was an active member of Our Lady of Victory Church. For many
years, he could be seen serving his church as a Eucharistic Minister, Confirmation Class
Leader, and was an active member in the parish.
Michael served proudly in the California Air National Guard until he retired. During his retirement years, he found joy in comforting families as a member of the Whitehurst Funeral Home. Michael finally “re-retired” to care for the love of his life, Dolores, when her health required his assistance.
Michael has been described by so many as a loving, patient and kind man. He made
everyone feel welcome and loved. He enjoyed sharing his many talents with all his boys, and
taught them all what it meant to be a man that is pleasing in God’s eyes. Michael was so
happy with the many daughters-in-law, children, and great grand-children that his sons
brought into the family over the years. Michael loved every one of his daughters-in-law, and
he was so happy that they knew and loved him as Dad.
Together, Michael and Dolores would host countless gatherings at their house. Everyone was
welcome, and there was always enough food and space for all. Laughter, stories, and music
could always be found when Michael and Dolores opened their home for all to enjoy. Family
was everything to Michael.
Michael loved to take his family on trips, especially to Monterey, Carmel, Los Angeles, and the
famous trip to Arizona in the Winnebago. His sons have many wonderful memories of their
travels, including the various hotels selected, the heat of Needles, CA, and the delicious food
packed by Mom that rarely lasted past the outskirts of Fresno. The time spent together
created memories that will last a lifetime.
Michael loved his sons and their families, and every one of his grandchildren. He loved
celebrating the various stages of his grandchildren’s lives. Mike and Dolores were able to
enjoy seasonal celebrations, sporting events, recitals and music performed by his
grandchildren. Going to see Grandpa Mike and Grandma Dolores at their house was always a
treat, and the grandchildren knew where to find the toy closet and the well supplied cookie jar.
While he will be missed immensely, Michael’s devotion to his Catholic faith and his family will
be the legacy that his family carries in their hearts forever.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dolores, son Gerard, many brothers and sisters, and
parents Higinio and Carmen.
He is survived by his sons Daniel, David and wife Marisela, Raymond and wife Kristin,
daughter-in-law Donna, Benjamin and wife Esmeralda, grandchildren David, Alex, Vanessa,
Joseph, Mallory, Tommy, Evelyn, Benjamin & Michael, and great grand-children Rhynne,
Isaiah, Isabella, and his brothers Frank, Jess and Rico.
The Lozano Family would like to thank the many relatives and friends for the prayers and
support offered during this time of loss, and also wish to extend their appreciation to the many
doctors, nurses, and caregivers that cared for Dad. Most recently, the family would like to
thank the medical and support team at Nancy Hinds Hospice, Right at Home Care and
Assistance, and a special thank you to our wonderful friend Lynette for the love and care
provided to Michael and Dolores while they were at home over the past several years.
