Michael “Mike” Keith Cobb, died Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at his home in Friant, California with his loving wife and daughter holding his hands. His parents were Robert Nelson Cobb and Roberta Ann Grace Cobb. They were an outdoorsy family spending time in the Fresno mountains and at the coast.
Michael served in the Navy for three years and nine months. In 1962, he was on Christmas Island (Kiribati) for six months with VP 872 and witnessed twenty-one atomic explosions. He spent over 25 years working as a private investigator and over 7 years in construction and construction management. Later he sold jewelry and owned a cultured marble manufacturing company. He loved nature and being in the mountains, especially camping, spending time with his “girls,” traveling, museums, airplanes, downhill skiing, rocketry, creating a sanctuary for birds at his home, reading, (especially the newspaper), boating, being a member of the Westerners International, being a member of the Fresno County Archaeological Society, and attending lectures and going on tours. In the 1990s he connected with other atomic veterans through the National Association of Atomic Veterans (NAAV) and learned about the health impact of the atomic explosions.
He married Karen Bosch Cobb in 1978, and they built their home at Millerton Lake where they resided 44 years and raised their daughter. He is survived by his wife, daughter Clarkia Cobb, brother Peter Cobb, and 7 nieces and nephews.
