Lida Marie Helman was born in Fresno, California on February 14, 1922 and went to meet her Lord on December 17, 2022 at the age of 100. Born to John and Mary Michelotti, who were born and married in Pescia, Italy, Lida enjoyed growing up on the family ranch in Sanger. Graduating from Sanger High School in 1941, Lida went on to attend Reedley College. It was there that a recruiter of office personnel from McClellan Field, Sacramento came to the business classes in 1942 to hire clerical office help due to the outbreak of World War II. Along with others from the class, Lida went to McClellan Field for 3 ½ years and worked as a secretary until the end of the war. Returning to Fresno to live out the rest of her life, Lida retired in 1985 from the Internal Revenue Service.
On July 15, 1951, Lida married the love of her life, Elsworth “Dutch” Helman; he passed away after 30 wonderful years of marriage on November 5, 1981. Lida and Dutch served as devoted parents and healthy role models. As a member of the Italian Catholic Federation, the Central California Classic Thunderbird Club, and Gyro Club, Lida enjoyed the many friendships that were born out of her participation in club activities.
Loving to travel, seeing the world and exploring history, Lida took many trips with friends. Journeying to Europe, Russia, China, and many locations in the United States, Lida relished each new experience. Chronicling her travels in journals, Lida spent time in her later years reliving her expeditions by reviewing her documentations.
Known for her flair with fashion and conscientious attention to appearance, Lida was often called a “Fashionista”. Coordinating outfits from head to toe, including color coordinated watches, Lida was always well put together. Receiving many compliments on her outfits well into her 90’s, Lida was a striking woman always taking great pride in her presentation.
In addition to her parents, Lida is preceded in death by her brother Robert Michelotti. Survived by her daughters Danette Trippel and husband Lance, Darlene Stiers and husband Brad, and son Donald Helman and wife Janice and four grandchildren, Hail and Trustin Stiers, Alex, and Austin Helman, Lida will always be remembered for her value of family and the great empathy she had for those she loved.
