Jacob is survived by his wife of 67 yrs, Zena Maltseff, and their 4 children; Milla Smith, Michael Volkov, Paul Volkov, Alexandra Longfellow and her husband Gary. 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
After immigrating to the United States, Jacob proudly served in the army of his new country as an orderly at the US Hospital in Tokyo during the Korean War.
Jacob earned a bachelor’s degree in English from UC Berkeley and later a Master’s from UC Davis. Jacob taught English at AA Stagg High School in Stockton, CA from 1961-199? Post retirement he continued to substitute teach.
While in Stockton he served at Stockton SDA Church from 1961-2000 as deacon, elder and head elder. He was also on the school board for Lodi Academy. After moving to Fresno, CA in 2000 he helped start an SDA Russian Church Company. Following the break up of the Soviet Union and the introduction of Perestroika Jacob taught English at the SDA Seminary in Nyzhny Novgorod for a semester and on another trip served as an interpreter for evangelistic meetings in Kyev, Ukraine. Over time he also served as an interpreter for several Russian refugees seeking asylum in the United States.
Jacob loved his Lord and served Him his whole life helping others as best he could.
A Graveside Service, with Military Honors will be held at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, 32053 McCabe Road, Santa Nella, CA 95322 on September 17, 2024 at 11:00 am. A reception will follow.
