In 1982, Helen retired from Fresno Unified School District where she was employed as a secretary at Fresno High School for 20 years.
Helen was born on January 20, 1916, and raised on the family farm in Troy, Missouri. After graduating from high school in Troy, Helen moved to St. Louis working as a nanny for a physician's family while attending Business College. She also was employed as a bookkeeper at the Trebal Dice Factory. While in St. Louis, she met and married Jesse H. Barnett of Atlanta, Georgia.
Helen and Jesse lived for short periods of time in St. Louis, Chattanooga, San Jose, and Long Beach, California and lived the last 69 years in Fresno, California.
When first moving to Fresno, Helen and Jesse joined the First Presbyterian Church. She later joined the University Presbyterian Church.
Over the years, she was a member of a number of women's organizations such as Lady Lions, Republican Women's Association and others. Helen also served as PTA President of Fresno High School while her children attended school.
Helen loved to play bridge, sew, travel and spend as much time with her family as possible.
Helen was a "lovely lady", a wonderful mother and friend who was loved very much by her family and friends. She will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse H. Barnett, her parents William Edward and Mary Molly Dreyzehner, her brothers, Otto, Walter, John, Fred and Elmo Dreyzehner and her sister, Elsie Hall.
Helen is survived by her sons, Phillip Barnett of Paradise, Ca. David and daughter-in-law Barbro Barnett of Boise, Id.; daughter, Jessica and son-in-law Daniel Kaiser of Fresno, Ca.; her six grandchildren Corinne Deborah Dare, David Kristian Barnett, Michael Anders and his wife Teri Barnett, Jeffrey Adam Barnett, Kaylyn Danielle Kaiser, Melissa Marlene and husband Ryan Nolte; her eight great grandchildren Danielle, Corey, Sabrina, Annika, Evan, Aaron, Daniel, and Landan; and her sister, Marie Williams of Branson, Missouri; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held at Stephens and Bean Chapel on Friday, February 18, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. followed by interment at Belmont Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Arne Nixon Center, Henry Madden Library, at CSUF; or to the donors favorite charity.
