Evelynne was born on March 18, 1947, in Oakland, California. Although she was born in Oakland, she was primarily raised in Fresno, California, where she continued to live and raise her two children with her spouse, Brad Hayes. Evelynne and Brad enjoyed a happy marriage that spanned 55 years. Their union was a testament to love, commitment, and partnership, and Evelynne deeply cherished the life they built together.
She dedicated many years of her life to ensuring that the children at Dailey Elementary School were well-nourished and cared for. Known for her warm smile and kind heart, Evelynne made a lasting impact on both the students and staff. Beyond her professional life, Evelynne was the heart and soul of many staff gatherings. She enjoyed planning staff parties and was famous for pulling shenanigans under her playful alias, "The Shadow." Her sense of humor and zest for life brought joy and laughter to her colleagues and friends.
One of Evelynne's greatest joys was hosting holidays at her home for family and friends. She was particularly known for her spectacular Halloween parties on Michigan Avenue, where she would carve over 100 pumpkins and dress up as a witch to pass out candy to all the kids. Evelynne didn't just pass out candy; she interacted with each child, asking them about their costumes and creating a magical experience for everyone. Her love for her neighbors and community was evident in everything she did.
Evelynne also loved sending cards to friends and family just because. She was known for her signature sign-off, “Love ya, Just me,” which brought smiles and comfort to all who received her thoughtful messages.
Evelynne had a deep love for gardening, crocheting, needle point, and crafting. She found joy in tending to her garden, yard work, creating beautiful crocheted items, and engaging in crafting projects with her beloved grandchildren. These activities brought her closer to nature and allowed her to create lasting memories with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Brad Hayes; her brother, Dennis Mowles; her children, Kristina Hayes and her spouse JP Maroot, and Katie Davis and her spouse Brandon Davis; her grandchildren, Jeremy Eurgubian and Collin Eurgubian; and her bonus grandchild, Ryden Maroot. She was predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Mable Mowles.
Evelynne will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her legacy of kindness, humor, creativity, and community will live on in the hearts of many.
