Dolores Gutierrez Lozano

Dolores Gutierrez Lozano passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at the age of 82. Born in Williams, Arizona, on September 27, 1938, she was the youngest of three children born to Lorenzo and Ruth Gutierrez. Having two older brothers, she brought immediate joy and happiness to the family.

Dolores attended St. Alphonsus Elementary School in Fresno, where she met the love of her life Michael, and together they went on to graduate from San Joaquin Memorial High School. After dating, Mike and Dolores married on November 15, 1958. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage, raising their 5 sons together. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, Nina, and friend to everyone she met.

A devout Catholic, Dolores was an active member of Our Lady of Victory Church. For many years, she served as the Office Manager for OLV Church, working alongside many amazing priests who befriended the Lozano family. Dolores enjoyed many years volunteering as an active member of the Holy Rosary Orphan Society.

Dolores had a playful smile and loved to laugh with her family. She was multi-talented, and even served as the barber for all her boys. She enjoyed reading, tending to her plants, and loved listening to her music, especially Vicki Carr, Carole King, and sometimes Tom Jones. The 4th of July was often a festive gathering at the Lozano house, as relatives would gather to celebrate the birthday of her mother Ruth. Together family would laugh, celebrate, eat, and ignite fireworks together.

Dolores loved to cook for her family, and her enchiladas, chili beans and rice were legendary. Anyone who came over the house during the hot summer weather could always count on a cold glass of her famous sweet “sun-tea,” heavy on the sugar. Of course, the grandchildren (and children) could not leave the house without taking a few cookies from the cookie jar that was conveniently located right by the front door.

Dolores loved her sons and their families, and every one of her grandchildren. She loved celebrating the various stages of her grandchildren’s lives. Dolores and Mike were able to enjoy soccer games, recitals and music performed by her grandchildren. Going to see Grandma Dolores and Grandpa Mike at their house was always a treat, and the grandchildren knew where to find the toy closet and enjoyed having something delicious to eat.

While she will be missed immensely, Dolores’s devotion to her Catholic faith and her family will be the legacy that her family carries in their hearts forever.

She was preceded in death by her son Gerard, her brother Hector, and parents Lorenzo and Ruth.

She is survived by her husband Michael and their sons Daniel, David and wife Marisela, Raymond and wife Kristin, daughter-in-law Donna, Benjamin and wife Esmeralda, her brother Rudy and wife Maureen, and grandchildren David, Alex, Vanessa, Joseph, Mallory, Tommy, Evelyn, Benjamin & Michael, and great grand-children Rhynne, Isaiah, Isabella.

The Lozano Family would like to thank the many relatives and friends for the prayers and support offered during this time of loss, and also wish to extend their appreciation to Right at Home Care and Assistance for the love and care provided to Dolores while she was at home.

Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, services will be private, but a live stream link and date of the service will be made available at this site so all can virtually attend online.

Private Funeral Service Information: Funeral Date & Time: Tuesday, February 9th at 10:00 a.m. (Pacific Time) You will find the link to the service in the banner at the top of this page, and all are invited to virtually attend online. For those unable to view the service live, the service will be made available for 90 days following the date of the service on the Whitehurst website.

Interment following the funeral service will be private and not streamed online due to COVID restrictions.
