The first of two children, David Martin Howard was born in Oakland, California, to Daniel and Beulah Fay Howard in 1951. He was a career Army officer who served from 1969 to 1998 and then worked for the Department of Defense until 2014. He was an amateur photographer who took pictures throughout his travels around the world. He was a lifelong chess player and enjoyed golf.
As a father, he always had stories to tell served with a side of humor. He had a strong moral fiber and distilled this along with his Midwestern work ethic in his daughter, Christine, who survives him along with his grandson, Numair. David was predeceased by his beloved wife, Linda, to whom he was married almost 46 years.
