Dave's parents were farmers and ran a small dairy. When Dave was nine, his parents sold the farm and traveled to California in a 1927 Model T Ford. They settled in Reedley, CA, where they found work in a dairy. In 1932, the family moved to another dairy in Madera County where Dave attended Ripperdan School where he was active in the 4-H.
In 1936, Dave's parents bought a farm south of Kerman, CA, where Dave worked and was active in FFA, raising beef calves for show. A highlight was showing one at the 1939 World's Fair on Treasure Island.
Dave was a pitcher on the Kerman baseball team and had a tryout for the Seals in San Francisco, CA, and the Brooklyn Dodgers in Fresno. He graduated from Kerman High School in 1940. He worked on a dairy farm and as a cowboy until 1942, when he joined the United States Army Medical Corps, serving in Alaska, and the Aleutian Islands until 1944. After the war, he continued in farming in Fresno and Madera Counties.
Dave's German Russian heritage served him well as he volunteered at American Historical Society of Germans from Russia Library and Museum. He also belonged to many other organizations including The Fresno Genealogical Society.
Dave survived three wives, Maxine Adolphson Foth, Norene Koop Foth, and Fran Davenport Foth. He passed away in his sleep on January 31, 2018, and will always be fondly remembered by his family and many friends.
