Audrey Jean began life on August 31, 1940 in Des Moines, Iowa to Deana and Gale Peddicord. She often talked of spending her younger years on the farm with her Uncle CN and her loving grandparents. She moved to Phoenix, AZ when she was about 11 and then on to National City, CA in January, 1954. Uncle CN and Grandma Holmes joined them there. Audrey graduated from Sweetwater Union High School in 1958.
Bobby and Audrey were wed on September 3, 1964. Audrey blended their families together with a healthy balance of fun and structure. Together they had four children, Debbie and husband Jack, Tom and wife Marsha, Dean who preceded her in death and Robbie, six grandkids Rick and wife, Sara, Angie and husband, Patrick, Andrea, Amber, Adam and wife, Jami and Kylee and husband, Jeff, fourteen great grandkids, Devon, Michael, Brice, Tela, Audrey, Robert, Derek, Jocelynn, Zayda, Reesa, Sierra, Rowdy, Bella, and Ricky.
Audrey went to work for PAC {Ma} BELL, then AT&T where she retired after 35 years. She and Bobby moved to Sanger, CA. where she took on a second career with the IRS, spending another 12 years there.
Audrey lost her son, Dean in 2001 and the love of her life, Bobby in 2002. These were both devastating to her, but with her spunky spirit and her strong faith she rallied both times to be the strong head of our family.
Some of the things Audrey loved most in life were the Lord, Bobby, her immediate and extended family, and Starbucks coffee. Tom reports that after reading her latest bank statement that Audrey spent 3 times as much at Starbucks than she did at the gas station! We are convinced that the car got much better mileage than Audrey. Her passing will probably make a huge hit to the local franchise.
She also loved anything Disney, collecting salt and pepper shakers and Beanie Babies, and working with her crafts. She was very gifted and we all are lucky enough to have some special handmade treasures. Her Grandson Adam did say that he was always thankful that Grandma Jean didn’t make him sit through those sappy Disney movies. He will also always cherish the recent lunch they had together in Shaver where they really had a chance to B.S.
During their time in the San Diego area, Audrey and Bobby were active in several square dance clubs and clogging clubs. Audrey was a very good seamstress and made a number of their outfits. They made many dear friends during those years of dancing.
As a family they would go on annual vacations taking as many kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids as they could pack in. Debbie particularly remembers a trip to a horse farm in Louisville, KY. They were taking a day trip to see the famous Secretariat. Audrey was obviously lost on the back roads but would never, ever admit it. Bobby kept asking “Audrey Jean, are you lost? “, but she would always reply, “No, I know exactly where we are.” Audrey and Debbie were cracking up because they knew the truth. Robbie remembers Audrey’s first and last time on the Earthquake rollercoaster at Belmont Park. She was screaming so much on the first corner that her dentures fell out and broke on the ground below. Tom remembers when Audrey and Bobby felt brave enough to take 4 of the grandkids on a trip to Marine World Africa USA. They reported afterwards that his daughter, Kylee sat in the front seat with them and talked non-stop all the way there and back, hardly pausing to breathe. He also shared with us how Audrey and Aunt Nancy would decorate Bobby’s parents’ house from top to bottom while his Grandma Elsie would stay in the kitchen cooking a huge Mexican feast.
Granddaughter, Kylee, felt she shared some unique bonds with her Grandma but the one that was most dear to her heart was the faith and love of the Lord that they shared. Kylee felt such joy to meet Grandma’s church family here at SVCC and was comforted to know that she had such a great support system.
Granddaughter, Angie, shared “Grandma was more than a Grandma, who filled my childhood with many happy memories I will cherish forever. She was also my friend I could talk to about anything and in the last few years encouraged me spiritually and shared her walk with me which gave me peace knowing she is walking with Jesus.
Because of her caring spirit she was able to relate to each of us individually.
The remains of Bobby and Audrey Jean will be reunited on what would have been their 49th wedding anniversary, September 3rd, at Greenwood Cemetery in San Diego, CA.
In lieu of flowers the family would greatly appreciate remembrances be made to the Sierra View Community Church building fund or other favorite charity.
Memorial service will be held on July 28, 2013 at 2 P.M. at the Sierra View Community Church located at 730 ‘O’ Street, Sanger CA.
