Anna J. Smith was born December 27, 1930 in Livingston, Montana, and raised in Anaconda, Montana. After a short illness, she passed away on June 18, 2024 in Fresno, California. Anna was a resident of Fresno since 1952. She worked in nursing in her early career, and went on to become a teacher of adult special education for 38 years. She began her teaching career at Kelso Activity Center, then retired with Fresno Unified School District. Anna was dedicated to her students and their families. She volunteered for many years with The Arc bowling program. She was an active member of St. Paul Newman Center Catholic Church where she enjoyed providing meals for college students.
Preceding her in death are her husband of 70 years Jack Smith, siblings Bette Jean Monno, Partick Monno, and Lillian (Monno) Rust.
Anna is survived by daughters Jaquelyn Smith and Lori (Smith) Lewis, son-in-law Clay Lewis, grandchildren Katie (Lewis) Tonn, her husband Justin Tonn, Will Lewis and Jake Lewis, and great-grandchild Arabella Tonn.She is also survived by her honorary daughter Debi Clark-Fleming.
Other surviving family members include her sister-in-law Patricia Monno, brother-in-law Terry Smith and wife Marj Smith, and several nieces and nephews.
