A foster son of now deceased John R. and Ida M. Kuns, “Charlie” was born on October 17, 1917 in Fostoria, Ohio. He was preceded in death on February 18, 2011 by his high school sweetheart and wife of seventy-three years, Genevieve M. Hensley. Married in Wellsburg, West Virginia on April 18, 1937, Charlie was a devoted and loving husband and father. He and Jennie enjoyed a wonderful marriage and a blessed life together. He was also preceded in death by a son John C. Hensley, a grandson Barry John Hensley, an infant great-grandson, and a brother Claude E. Hensley.
He is survived by a son William C. (Gerrie) Hensley, and daughter-in-law Tracy Hensley. Also surviving Grandpa “Charlie” are four grandsons Jay Hensley, Todd Hensley, Gregg Hensley, Douglas Gangwer, nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
A graduate of Fremont Ross High School, he was a WWII veteran having served in the U.S. Navy. He retired from the Sandusky County Engineering Staff in 1983. He was an Elder and fifty-plus year member of the First Presbyterian Church. Other memberships include Brainard Masonic Lodge F & AM (Past Worshipful Master), Fremont Chapter Order of Eastern Star (Past Patron), Hi 12 Club, Zenobia Shrine Temple, Fremont Shrine Club (Past President), Zenobia Flag Unit, Zenobia Jeepster, Fremont Elks Lodge, and Elks Pinochle Club.
Visitation will be held at 2:00 Thursday, July 14th at Keller-Ochs-Koch-Mason Funeral & Cremation Service, 416 S. Arch St., Fremont, OH, followed by memorial service at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to The First Presbyterian Church, Fremont, OH, Hospice of Memorial Hospital, or to Shriner’s Childrens Hospitals - Zenobia Shrine, 8048 Broadstone Blvd, Perrysburg, OH, 43551.
