Carleen married the love of her life and childhood sweetheart, Denny Boester in Ft. Wayne, Indiana on December 23, 1967. They honeymooned at Pokagon State Park which has become a lovely memory place for her. The honeymoon only lasted four days and it was back to the Army for Denny. Later, in 1968, she was able to go with Denny to Fort Ord, California for a year before he was deployed to Viet Nam.
Denny was severely injured in Vietnam and spent eighteen months at Valley Forge Hospital, Pennsylvania and endured many painful surgeries and rehabilitation. Their oldest daughter, Dawn (Eric Beckhusen) was born at Valley Forge.
They brought her home to Ft. Wayne at 5 weeks old in a “pink military issue cardboard box .”
Since her own mom was a orphan, Carleen felt it necessary that she become a stay at home mom. Soon after came Erin (Boester) and Tina (Scott Crabtree).
Carleen always remained active in their lives. Her girls filled her life with love and happiness.
They’ve grown into fabulous women and mothers themselves. They gave Carleen her precious grandchildren.
Lauren 19 and Drew 14 Brosey; Luke 18, Brady 16 and Damon 14 Beckhusen; Carlee 14 and Ethan 12 Crabtree. They remain to be the loves of her life. They have given her such joy, pride, excitement, and the love they have will pave her way to Heaven’s Gate.
Carleen is also survived by two sisters, Linda Andrews French of Los Fresnos, Texas, and Juanita Carr of Coldwater. They both have given her much love and comfort. She would like to thank the customers at Kinderhook Kwik Stop and Turtle Creek Golf Course for their kindness and concern. A special thank you to her wonderful friends for their cards, prayers and expressions of love. A private family service will be held to honor Carleen, “Nana”.
A public visitation will take place at Beams Funeral Home in Fremont, IN on Thursday, July 28, 2016 from 5 to 7 p.m. She requested guests to wear white or bright blue in her honor. Carleen also requested “no flowers please” and to plant a Red Bud tree in her memory if you wish. Memorials can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. Interment of ashes have been taken care of by Beams Funeral Home in Fremont, Indiana, and a private burial with family will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Coldwater, at a later date.
