Doret grew up in Bolinao, the youngest brother of six sisters and seven brothers. He attended Cape Bolinao High School. After High School, he went off to College, but decided to pursue his passion for music. He was petitioned by his sister Nenet immigrating to United States in 1970. He was courting Miguela “Guiling” maintaining a long distant relationship, returning to Bolinao to marry her on December 24, 1972, and bringing her back to America shortly after. In 1974, he had his first daughter, Dorothy. In 1976, his second daughter, Michelle was born and his youngest son, Teddy Jr. in 1982. He worked at a flower nursery, Moffet Field, and Sandoz Pharmaceuticals living in Mountain View. Giling and Doret accomplished the American Dream of buying their first home in 1978 in San Jose as they started a new family. Doret started a successful window treatment business, T & M Window Fashions, with the support of his nephew Al “Poyee” Zavala.
In 1998, his middle daughter, Michelle, married and blessed him with his first three granddaughters Aliyah, Kyla and Shayla. In 2000, his eldest daughter, Dorothy married.
In 2000, Doret and Giling built their retirement home in Bolinao. In 2006, Giling and Doret relocated to Sacramento to begin a new chapter in their retirement life. He had his first grandson, Isaac in 2009. His son Teddy Jr. married in 2011 and the love of life Guiling passed way after a brief illness. Doret had promised Guiling that he would make sure he was there to help with his grandchildren. He was blessed with his last granddaughter Micaela later that year.
Enjoying being a grandfather, he was blessed with his youngest grandson Miguel, Teddy’s son in 2019. He enjoyed the retired life. He loved music, playing the organ, guitar, gambling, gardening, watching basketball, boxing, and going on Facebook, but most of all, spending time with his grandchildren and his granddogs.
Doret missed his wife Guiling deeply, but made sure to fulfill their goals by helping his children and being the best father and grandpa he could be. He accomplished so much in life helping others.
