Minh Tan Nguyen was born on September 7, 1929. The first name Minh Tan means new and progressive. She was the most cherished child of my grandparents because she was the only girl of their nine children, considered as the God’s answer to their constant prayers during the time her father, a doctor, had a medical mission on New Caledonia, a special collectivity of France located in the Southwest Pacific Ocean.
She got married when she was nineteen, on March 16th, 1948, and began her marriage life with all its ups and downs. From 1948-1963, everything seemed to be a good thing to her; from 1963-1967, a change of Vietnamese politics turned her family upside-down; from 1967-1975, she enjoyed the reunion with husband; from 1975-1989, it was a nightmare to everyone when the Viet communists controlled the whole country, and it was no exception to her; from 1989-2012, she enjoyed the reunion of family again, living within the love of all her children and husband until she passed away.
She was a great Catholic. Whatever happened to her, bad or good, she always trust in God through her daily prayers and reading church books. She was a great wife, mother, and daughter. She dedicated her life to her husband and children. At the same time, she always tried to be a filial daughter to both parents and a good relative to her extended family. She had a great heart. She willingly shared what she could to the less fortunate. She liked to collect money to help the needy in Vietnam or to support the Church’s missions. She easily forgave the other people’s mistakes, including ours, and never hold grudge to anyone.
She passed away on June 12, 2012 and survived by her husband, nine children, four daughters in-law, five nephews and four nieces. She will be remembered and loved by everyone know her. Her life is a beautiful rose in the God’s garden. We believe God bless her for good things she had done, and in the heaven she always pray for us. We love you Mom.
