December 2, 2016.
Virginia Ann was born on February 12, 1920, at Petersburg, Virginia. As a child she and her mother moved to Fredericksburg, where she met Rodney Freeman. They were married in May 1941 at Craig Air Force Base in Selma, Alabama, and began their life together, until his passing in December 1987. Virginia Ann traveled across the country several times while Rodney was overseas during WWII. This was quite an adventure for a young mother at that time.
After the war, they lived in Winchester, Virginia for several years. They returned to Fredericksburg in 1951, where Virginia Ann became very active in the community, dancing in many local shows and benefits, and modeling for local dress shops. She was talented with flower arranging and won numerous prizes at local flower shows.
After Rodney’s passing, she became involved with Mrs. Senior America Pageants and was crowned Mrs. Senior Virginia, and Mrs. Senior Vermont. She also remodeled and restored the old Freeman home, and lived there until just prior to her death. She was a consummate entertainer, and thoroughly enjoyed giving and attending parties, and decorating her home for all holidays was a passion. She was a devoted wife, and mother and friend to many.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John Lynch and Lucille Hinton, her husband, Rodney Freeman, her daughter, Cynthia Rowe Freeman Branscome, and her grandson, Rodney Freeman III.
She is survived by her children, Rodney Jr. (Rebecca), James (Nancy), Lucille Page (Greg) Rainford, and grandchildren Ann Hall (John) Kendall, Elizabeth (Michael) Seeds, Ardes Freeman, Sarah (Jason) Rubish, James Freeman Jr. (Jennifer), Virginia Freeman, Nancy (Matt) Liashek, Audrey Freeman, and Mary Claire Eldridge (Keith), and 12 greatgrandchildren, Jack, James, Tim, Cynthia Rose, Nick, Emma, Henry, Audrey, AnneClaiare, Avery, Hew and James, and by her special friend of 28 years, Allan Taylor.
A visitation will be held at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel, from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 7th. Her funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Thursday, December 8th at Fairview Baptist Church.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Fairview Baptist Church at 900 Charlotte St. in Fredericksburg.
