Michelle Monique Covington of Fredericksburg, VA, peacefully passed away on December 11, 2024, with the love of her family surrounding her.
Michelle was born to Maurice and Annie Gilliam on October 13, 1971, in the District of Columbia.
Michelle was a native of Fort Washington, MD, where she attended Prince George’s County Public Schools and graduated from Gwynn Park High School in 1990. She later pursued further education at the University of Maryland and completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology.
Michelle held many administrative roles in the workforce, including Children's Hospital and NASA. Outside of Corporate America, Michelle also excelled as an entrepreneur. Michelle was a talented real estate agent, owned a clothing business, Gilliam’s Flavor, with her best friend, and was an independent consultant with Paparazzi Accessories. Born with a true creative spirit, Michelle loved to craft, often making t-shirts, decorating planners, and creating projects for friends and family.
Michelle has three beautiful children that she loved dearly, Catherine Thomas of Charlotte, NC, Andre Gilliam (Anna) of Mechanicsville, MD, and Medrick Ellis Jr. of Forestville, MD.
In 2015, Michelle married the love of her life, Larry Covington and relocated to Fredericksburg, VA.
Michelle was truly an angel on earth. A loving, selfless, and God fearing woman, you could always count on her to lend a helping hand to those in need. In her spare time, Michelle thoroughly enjoyed spending time with family and friends, shopping, crafting, traveling, skating, fishing, and eating. Michelle also enjoyed reading, attending church and spending time with her church family.
Michelle was preceded in death by her father, Maurice Gilliam; Brother in law, Matthew Armorer; and Aunt, Peggy White.
She will be greatly missed by her husband of 9 years, Larry Covington; Mother, Annie Gilliam; Mother in law, Olabell Covington; Children, Catherine Thomas, Andre Gilliam (Anna), Medrick Ellis Jr; Grandchildren, Alonna Gilliam, Amiya Gilliam; Siblings, Gerald Gilliam (Cecile), Jacqueline Armorer; Nieces, Laneshia Collier, Hope Collier; Nephews, Jacob Gilliam, Nathaniel Armorer and a host of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, extended family and friends.
