Kelly was born in Rockville, Maryland on June 23, 1962 to T. Phillip and Frances (Brewster) Waalkes. Kelly graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Art Education.
She was formerly an art teacher at the Highland School in Warrenton, Virginia. She was actively involved in the local Fredericksburg art community and was a member of Art First. She was a devoted wife and mother. She lived her life to the fullest and loved to laugh. Her favorite quote was “a little song, a little dance, a little seltzer down my pants” by Chuckles the Clown.
In addition to her parents, Kelly is preceded in death by her husband, James A. Butler.
She is survived by two sons, Allen and Brewster Butler; as well as four brothers, Richard, Michael, Steven and Robert Waalkes; and a sister, Nancy Waalkes.
A celebration of her life will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, May 11 at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel 1621 Jefferson Davis Hwy.
