Jim Don was the son of Charles Preston Hudnall, Jr. and Edith (Eskins) Hudnall. He graduated from Collins High School (class of 1960) in Oak Hill, WV. He attended Beckley College in Beckley, WV before being drafted into the US Army where he served 2 years in Vietnam. Afterward, he served in the National Guard and marched with Martin Luther King, Jr in the Selma to Montgomery March.
Jim Don married Brenda Joyce Burgess on March 2, 1968 in Alexandria, VA. Jim Don and Brenda shared 56 years of marriage and 3 children (Sheri, Lori, and Preston) together. He was known as “Papaw” to his 7 grandchildren (Christen, Alyssa, Jack, Preston, Riley, Mason, and Abby).
Jim Don spent 35 years in the communications industry and later retired from Lucent Technologies. He started his career as a lineman for Bell South and progressed to senior level positions. He often traveled ahead of the President of the United States as part of the Advanced Communications Network.
In his spare time, he enjoyed meeting up with his friends to play golf and watching sporting events, especially football. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Remaining to cherish Jim Don’s memory are his loving wife, Brenda; children, Sheri (John) Buehner and their children, Jack Buehner and Riley Buehner, Lori (Doug) Stinson and her children, Christen White and Mason White, and James Preston Hudnall and his children, Alyssa Hudnall, James Preston Hudnall, Jr. and Abigail Hudnall; sisters, Rebecca (George) Mills and Nancy (Paul) Clark along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by parents, Charles and Edith Hudnall.
Visitation will be held December 21, 2024, at 1:00pm at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service at 1621 Emancipation Highway, Fredericksburg, VA 22401, with a service to follow at 2:00pm. A private interment with Military Honors will be conducted at Quantico National Cemetery at a later date.
