Jack was born in Greensboro, NC, on August 22, 1934.He graduated from Pfeiffer College with an Associates Degree in Chemistry and Math. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, which assigned him to multiple bases across the United States. While stationed in Wisconsin, he was selected to attend the Milwaukee School of Engineering, focusing on electronics and computers. When he was stationed later in Washington, DC, he was assigned to the US Army Finance Department and later served at the Department of Defense Computer Institute as an instructor. During this time, Jack attended George Washington University as well, where he earned BA and Masters degrees in Finance and a PhD in International Business and Finance. Jack was proud to be a military veteran, having served in Vietnam and Germany and retiring at the rank of Major.
Following his Army career, Jack worked as a hiring manager for Boeing and as a business instructor at the University of Mary Washington and Germanna Community College. He was also a partner in Cintec, a business that specialized in writing computer software programs for large companies like AT&T. His interest in computers and investing led him to found The Microcomputer Investor's Association.
Jack had an innate curiosity, a bright mind, and a wide range of interests. Among his broad pursuits, he enjoyed computers, gardening, spending time in his workshop, exploring family genealogy, and Dobermann Pinschers. He was a 50-year member in the Masonic Fraternity and held the position of Worshipful Master of the John A. Lejeune Lodge in Quantico. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans, serving as treasurer for numerous years.
Jack was preceded in death by his first wife, Savannah Williams, and by his daughter, Sherrie Osborne. He is survived by his second wife of 53 years, Kathryn Williams, and daughters Lorelei Tharpe (Forrest) in TX, Corinna Martin (Sandy) in SC, and Jacqueline Camenisch (Jay) in KY. His grandchildren include Michael Osborne, Matthew Osborne, Katy (Osborne) Doss, and Emily Osborne; Natasha (Camenisch) Little and Brittany (Camenisch) Rawlings; Grace Anne Martin, Noah Martin, and Luke Martin; and Caleb Tharpe. He was also blessed with several great grandchildren.
