Michael James Shumway

Mike is survived by his wife, Melanie, children Greg (Amy) Shumway of Xenia, Ohio and Daughter Rebecca Spivey of Lakeland, Florida; grandchildren Cailynn Shumway, Blake Sutton-Shumway, Desirae Spivey and R.J. Matteoli Jr. Mike also leaves behind 10 siblings, Linda Shumway, Gary (Bridget) Shumway, Larry (Judy) Shumway, Sandra Jordan, Diane (Greg) Golden, Mary Gibson, Norma Miller, Daniel (Donna) Shumway, Martha Shumway and Faith (Jared) Vincent; two step-sons, two great grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mike is preceded in death by his first love and mother of his children, Patsy. He is also preceded in death by his parents, brother, David Shumway, his second wife, Judith Shumway, Nephew Scott Jeffery Miller, and his favorite four-legged companion, Sparky.

Mike was a 1966 graduate of Springboro High School. He enjoyed many lifelong friendships with his classmates. He worked in accounting and retired from Elastizell Syetms, Inc. in 2016. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Springboro where he found another family in which to share his faith and love of worship.

Mike was a sports lover, in particular football and baseball. He was proud to have been a kicker for the first Springboro High School football team. In his younger years, he enjoyed traveling, hiking and camping. Mike covered hundreds of miles maintaining the Buckeye Trail. He volunteered his time and accounting skills to the Fairborn Little League program. In later years, he looked forward to attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, get-togethers with church friends and spending quality time with his wife, Melanie.

Mike was a kind-hearted and generous soul that touched all those he met in life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to help the family with final expenses

A celebration of life visitation for Michael will be held Monday, January 8, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at First Baptist Church Springboro, 80 Greenwood Lane, Springboro, OH 45066, followed by a celebration of life at 7:00 PM.
