Betty Jane Henkel was born to Douglas Robert and Antoinette Spirek Bowman on September 11, 1917 in Chillicothe, Ohio. She was the devoted wife of the late Charles Edward Henkel for 72 years. On July 12, 2017, she went peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus in Middletown, Ohio. She is survived by their three children: Charles Edward Henkel, Jr. and his wife, Nanette Marie Henkel of Middletown, Ohio with 4 children, 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; Martha Ann Drach, the wife of the late Edward Gustave Drach of Cincinnati, Ohio with 2 children and 4 grandchildren; and Hollace Henkel Quarles and her husband, Frederick Hundley Quarles, III of Williamsburg, Virginia, with 2 children and 2 grandchildren.
Growing up in Barnesville, Ohio, she went on to secretarial college in Cleveland, Ohio, studying comptometery and then working for Sherwin Williams until her marriage to Chuck in 1937. She enjoyed playing the piano, cards, tennis and golf. They were members of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod being founding members of Holy Cross in Fort Wayne, Indiana and Grace in Winchester, Kentucky; and being members in Cleveland, Ohio, Lexington, Kentucky, Vero Beach, Florida, and Middletown, Ohio. A service will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church, Middletown, at 11 am on Friday, July 14th and on Wednesday, July 19th at 11 am at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Vero Beach, Florida . Interment will be at Crestlawn Cemetery in Vero Beach. The family asks that donations be made to the Gideons International in lieu of flowers.
