Steven Theodore Richardson

He was preceded in death by his Stepfather Daryld “Corky” Richardson, who adopted him when he was 12 years old.

Steve grew up in Idaho Springs where he cultivated his love of the mountains. In retirement he had planned to live in a cabin near Lake Grandby, CO, where he would go out on a pontoon boat and spend his days fishing or find an off-road adventure in his new Ford Bronco.

Steve served in the United States Army four years where he learned to build bridges and operated both the M113 Armor Personnel Carrier (APC) and the M728 Combat Engineer Vehicle (CEV). He was proud of his time in the military and often told stories about his army buddies and himself.

Steve enjoyed working with his hands and was always there to help. There never seemed to be a project too large for him to tackle. He helped to lay laminate flooring in three rooms of our home, knocked out a wall to make a dining room, built a shed and pantry and laid a tile backsplash in the kitchen, he even made a custom butcher block and cutting boards.

There are many more projects, too numerous to name, however, he was most passionate about and proud of his three children, Elizabeth, Stephanie and James. He often put his own projects on hold to do something for his kids. Whether it was staying up all night helping with a college project, building a custom bedframe or helping with a renovation, he did all he could to make them happy.

Steve was also a loyal and dedicated employee. He just recently reached twenty years at Serco and was so proud to be part of such a great team. He was affectionately called a gentle giant and always made each person his priority. He worked with people all over the country yet spoke of them as if they shared an office. Serco has been a second family and he was so proud to be a part of it, never has he been so happy and hopeful.

Steve was simply amazing. The last memory was with his children, playing his favorite card game, Rummy. He always played until everyone had a chance to win. He was a hero, humble and fair, yet fierce and protective. He will be missed and never forgotten.

He is survived by his former wife, Lisa Richardson of Byers, CO; his daughters, Elizabeth and Stephanie Richardson and his son James Richardson, all of Colorado Springs, CO; his mother Irene Richardson of Blackhawk, CO; three siblings, Eric Richardson of Byers, CO, Lance Richardson of Brighton, CO, and Linda Godwin of Blackhawk, CO; and a host of many relatives and friends.

Celebration of life service will be held at 1:00pm MDT Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Dove-Witt Family Mortuary 6630 S U.S. Hwy 85 87, Fountain, CO 80817. The immediate family will hold a scattering of the ashes ceremony privately later on in the year and will be by invitation only.
