Aunt Kate, 
To a person who taught me the true meaning of friendship and loving without judgement. To the aunt who is the happiest person I have ever seen. To the friend I am going too miss every day for the rest of my life. 
I feel so lucky to have you for a cheerleader for every single event in my life, from graduations to birthdays I always knew you would be there cheering me on. Even the littlest moments in my life, you lend support and always care. Aunt kate, you light up the room and being you to all of our lives. I just cannot tell you how lucky I am to have an aunt, a mentor and friend like you. 
Thank you for teaching me as you did, setting an example of living for the moment, loving so strong and always seeking the good. You and Scott have always supported me and it just means more than words can express that you let me be a part of your life.

I'm writing to you today, March 23rd, which also happens to be Jonah's first birthday!! What a special day, but I also am filled with sadness that you are not here to share in it with me. I'm reminded of when you first met him- I brought him to meet Gigi in the hospital. How lucky he was to know you- even if for such a short time. How fortunate Analiese and Wesley have been to have such a special relationship with you. They love you so very much- and miss you every day. 

You have never been anything but my biggest fan! When I think of any significant experience/activity I have had in my life- you were always there. I truly hope you know how much our relationship means to me. I could call or come to you for anything at anytime.I've always thought of you as my second Mom. 

I think of you daily and feel completely in denial- I truly cannot even fathom you are gone. I feel like I just haven't seen you in a few weeks...not sure when that will change. I just really can't imagine my life without you in it. I just find peace knowing that you are not in pain anymore, also knowing that you are with Grandma. I picture that the party in Heaven has started now that you've arrived ;) You can also feel relief knowing that Analiese will proudly carry on being unable to control the volume of her voice- hehe!!

I love you far more than I can even express in words- but I know you know that. My heart just hurts when I think of you and I miss you so incredibly much.

These sweet quotes tell a story of sisterhood that I hold deep in my heart.  I struggle to express the depth of love I feel for you and of the sorrow I feel since you left us.  All the joy and sparkle you brought to my life will remain with me forever!!  You brightened the room when you entered with your contagious, beaming smile and laughter.  Even the smallest of accomplishments by others was magnified by your joy for them. From the youngest to the oldest family members, you brought sunshine into our lives just by being you.  

You know, sisters hold precious memories from childhood that no one else can know or share.  We talked about life based on mutual experiences that only we held.  Growing up in that tiny house in El Paso created a special world where our family of seven learned to share, be patient, compassionate, caring, and understanding.  Sharing a room with you, I so wanted to be like you as a kid: pretty, fashionable, popular, musical, happy, loving life, outgoing.  It all looked pretty glamorous in the eyes of a grade schooler.  You were always such a girly girl.  That certainly never changed with your regular hair and nail appointments.  Always looking your best!!  We had a lot of fun times in that little house.  I so remember singing with you and Mom at the piano.  She'd play and we'd sing together - you so loved the musicals and singing.  That was a big part of your high school years  along with your time as a Trooperette, marching and dancing at all the football games and in parades. How I wanted to follow in your footsteps!  

You left home as a very young woman and sacrificed to help provide for your family.  I remember your stories of lean times and doing your best to care for your girls as a young mother.  I always looked up to you as my big sister and drew from your life story what I thought life should be like when I grew up. But when we moved so far away from each other, that relationship kinda' cooled for a few years until we all ended up in Colorado together as adults with kids of our own.  I was so thankful for you during those difficult times in my life, especially when Kristen was born.  I so appreciated you being there to share that wonderful experience with. And didn't we have some great times together in Estes hiking and enjoying the mountains? And how about all those family gatherings over the years  2000 Family Reunion, 2010 Family Reunion, 25th  and 50th Wedding Anniversaries, all those years of holidays and birthdays, of new babies and expanding families, becoming grandparents and you, a great-grandmother!! How special for you to have that unique and wonderful experience.  You put so much of yourself  into being part of your grandchildren's lives even though they were so far away.  

You worked so hard to get your degree as a Paralegal then your Business Degree  all those nights in classes for years. What a role model for your kids and grandkids!  You worked to be the best you could possibly be in your work life and personal life.  When your life-path had unexpected detours  you created new paths and headed up them with renewed vigor.  And didn't you have great times in all of your travels over the years: Europe, Australia, Hawaii, Alaska, New York, Yellowstone, and more??   You had a life filled with joy and tears, good years and not so good years, triumphs and failures, love and heartache, peace and turmoil.  You had so much family to surround you: Mom and Dad, sisters and brothers, your daughter, grandchildren, and those beautiful great-grandchildren you had the privilege to hold and love, nieces and nephews, and your loving husband.  All who truly loved you deeply and all who miss you so.

Your legacy will live on through your children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and their children.   They are all part of you!  You will stay in our hearts forever.  I think of you every day and my heart is heavy with sadness without you in my life. I miss calling just to say hi. I miss your beautiful smile and warm hugs. I miss just sharing time with you hiking, talking, laughing, planning. But oh how I long to hear your voice and your laughter, to share in your exuberance of life, to live in the moment with you.  I love you so my sister, my friend.

You will be sorely missed by my sisters and I. We will always cherish your memories. We love and miss you so much. Let God take you into his loving arms and free you of your pain. RIP Grandma Kate.

Dear Scott and Family,

I'm sorry to hear about the passing of Kathy.  May the memories of Kathy bring you comfort.  I fondly recall one of them in the Photo Gallery picture of  the Jeppesen Legal group while on our weekend in the Colorado Rocky mountains--the Hanging Lake hike, the Snowmass balloon race and Lance Armstrong!

Cycles of life and death can be likened to the alternating periods of sleep and wakefulness. Just as sleep prepares us for the next day's activity, death can be seen as a state in which we rest and replenish ourselves for new life.
