Wayne Albert Hey

June 2, 2018 is truly a day of celebration as Dr. Wayne A. Hey transitioned from Godly servant on earth to his eternal home in Heaven.

Throughout his life Dr. Hey professed and demonstrated his strong faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. He began serving our Lord at an early age: accepting Christ at age fifteen; was President of Methodist Youth Group; was Director of Camp Bee Hive for mentally, physically and emotionally disabled kids from ages eighteen to twenty-two. Throughout his adult life Dr. Hey supported numerous Christian and conservative endeavors including Angel Tree, Chuck Colson Prison Ministries, Susan G. Komen, World Vision, sack lunches for shelters, Republican party, Meals on Wheels, Special Olympics, The Jesus Project, Wycliff Bible Translators and Crossover Restoration Foundation ministry. He sponsored numerous medical students, inviting them to live in his home for free during their internships or residency.

Dr. Hey loved old cars and he was drawn to the most dilapidated cars requiring the most restoration and care. Likewise, Dr. Hey was a rescuer – at times an angel on earth - as he helped friends, loved ones and strangers escape despair or dire situations. He didn’t simply profess his faith, he lived it daily. He used his love of cars to benefit at risk youth when he and a friend created Crossover Restoration Foundation, Inc.. This ministry helps young people learn how to restore automobiles, while providing a safe environment and a Christian message that Christ restores us. Dr. Hey founded and was chairman of the board of this Foundation.

Dr. Hey’s life chronology, career milestones and family:

*Third of four brothers born to Warren A. Hey and Doris E Young Hey, in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania on January 20, 1950.

*Attended Eastern Baptist *president of freshman class and treasurer of sophomore class* Completed coursework in two years graduated cum laude* Transferred to Temple University and graduated cum laude – honors biology* Varsity wrestler and varsity cross country* Member of the concert choir which toured Eastern United States* Led a praise team.

*Medical School: Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, DO degree* Married Margaret Ann (Megan) Self* Produced two smart, beautiful children Wayne David and Lauren* Internship and Residency at Detroit Osteopathic and Flint Osteopathic Hospital Corporation* Chief Resident* Received Resident of the Year award for teaching.

*1980 Dr. Hey moved to Texas and established his practice in Tarrant County. He founded and developed DFW Urology Consultants. He also developed surgery centers, an imaging center and taught at Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine for 36 years. Dr. Hey received several awards for Entrepreneur Businessman and Doctor of the Year. Dr. Hey’s brother Ron Hey was his cherished Business Administrator for over thirty years. Dr. Hey’s son, Wayne David Hey, DO is Dr. Hey’s physician partner @ DFW Urology Consultants.

*1994 Dr. Hey married Paula Jean Hopkins and her energetic brood of four kids. He influenced her four children Sarah, Zach, Josh, and Bethany – and nephew Grant - to each pursue careers in medical related fields. Paula passed on to Heaven in 2010 but Dr. Hey’s influence on these kids resulted in doctors, medical real estate, medical device sales and hospice career choices.

*2011 Dr. Hey married Myrna Tariman. Her children Neil, Chris and Hannah are great assets to the family. Hannah is an RN, Chris is serving our nation in the US Coast Guard and Neil works for DFW Urology.

Dr. Hey loved to have fun. He was a very creative, high functioning prankster. He mastered the art of gift giving, trickery and pranks. He spent countless hours creating twisted, tangled clues and directions on tiny notes to torment kids with marathon scavenger hunts just to find their Christmas presents. He loved to pounce out of a dark corner to scare the bugeeves out of unsuspecting victims (usually wearing his scary wolfman mask). Dr. Hey was always full of surprises and fun. He enjoyed frisbee golf and playing cards with family and friends.

Our dear Dr. Hey will be most remembered for his strong faith in Jesus Christ, and his immense capacity to love and care for his family, extended family, friends, colleagues and patients.

Dr. Hey is preceded in Heaven by his parents, brother Robert Hey and second wife Paula Hopkins Hey. Wayne leaves his legacy and a lifetime of treasured memories to his wife Myrna Hey; children Wayne David, Lauren, Sarah, Zachary, Joshua, Bethany, Neil, Chris and Hannah; brothers Ron Hey and Dan Hey; numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; dear friends too numerous to name; his beloved staff and wonderful patients.
