Velda(Vee) was born September 12, 1931 at McLean, Texas to A.R. McHaney and Velma (Thompson) McHaney. She graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1949. She also attended Hardin-Simmons University, Golden Gate Theological Seminary, William Jewel University of Liberty Mo and University of Corpus Christi.
Vee was married to Rev Edward E Evans for 66 years. Employed by Pilgrim Pride in Arlington and Houston General Ins. Co in Ft. Worth before retiring in 1990.
Vee always said she wanted to be a missionary to China. She never made it to China but she was a missionary wherever she went. She lived an adventurous life as she and Ed traveled the states breaking ground and starting churches. Oh how she loved to tell all the stories. From California to Alaska to Missouri and Montana, their ministry grew as Vee raised five daughters that watched her serve the Lord, share the gospel, and love the people she came in contact with. This was a job she never stopped doing and everyone who met her saw the light of Jesus shining in her and knew she loved the Lord.
Vee was preceded in death by her husband, Edward E Evans, parents, daughters Rose Cherry, Ellen Lhota and husband Bob, and son-in-law Carroll Bryant, brothers Sid McHaney and Joe Pat McHaney, and great grandson Liam Castro. She is survived by three daughters, Nena Bryant of Grandview, Tx, Bette Greenwood and husband Dale of Anson, Tx, and Veda Ragsdill of Houston, Tx.; Son-in-law Doug Cherry of Alvarado, Tx.; 13 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild with 2 on the way. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends (including the many friends acquired in her 19 years at St. Francis Village).
