supporting her family, she has earned her wings many times over and is now called home. She
was the center and heart of her family that she loved and served selflessly. She is survived by
her husband Dan Garrett; her children, Scott and Lindsey Garrett; her grandchildren, Brennan,
Lela and Bowie. As well as her sister, Cathy Long and her sister-in-law, Diane Morgan, the
Mires, the Waldorfs and the Colliers. She loved and served her community and faith, with
grace and love, improving the lives of everyone she met with her gentle spirit.
Sandra Sue Dennis Garrett was born on July 28,1946 in Waco, TX to Bob and Lela
Dennis. She moved to Brownwood at an early age and graduated from Brownwood High
School in 1964. She was both smart and beautiful, receiving her BA from Tarleton State
University in 1968 and earning her Masters from Baylor University in 1970. She received many
awards for her scholastic and civic achievements. As a blue-eyed blonde cheerleader at
Tarleton, she met her future husband and soul mate, Dan Garrett and they married in 1971.
She was a teacher for over 20 years and had a special rapport with children, both those she
taught and those she raised.
Sandy, better known as “Nonny”, and the sweetest woman who ever lived, went
peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Passing from this life is a road we are
all tasked with from birth, so move on, sweet lady, with pride and joy in a life well lived and well
loved. What a difference she made in this world! While she will be missed tremendously, we
trust in the faith and promise that there are no tears in heaven. While devastated at the loss of
her strong sweet soul, we know she is in a better place, free of any suffering. We are grateful
for the many years of her loving care, and confident in the assurance we will be together again
someday. In light of social distancing practices, we request you share your memories and
