Reverend Richard Ells Shugert was born April 10, 1946. He passed away after a 4-year battle with cancer on April 26, 2021. He surprised all of us by surviving much longer than everyone projected. He firmly believed he did not lose his cancer battle, but rather it was something which brought him closer to his Beloved Jesus whom he now sees face to face.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jo Ann, daughter Amy Wells (Scott) and son Nathan Shugert (Jennifer), 7 grandchildren Trisitea Shugert (Jordan), Elizabeth Shugert, Marilyn Nicholas-Tate, Myranda Murway (Andre), Ashton Murway (Chrystal) Chad Shugert (Candice), Katharine Cowan (Todd), and 6 ¾ Great Grandchildren.
He is also survived by 3 brothers Stephen Shugert (Wendy), John Shugert (Linda), and David Shugert (Ginny) and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by parents Warner and Jean Shugert and his brother Jim Shugert.
Rich was ordained in 1975 by Elijah Lovejoy Presbytery, Presbyterian Church, USA. His ordination was received into the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Red River Presbytery in 1995. He served churches in Hazard KY, Newberry TX, Terrell TX, Marshall MO, Lutz FL, Trilla IL, and Arlington TX. He served as a Hospice Chaplain for several years.
He also valued lessons learned while working in a variety of jobs as he delivered milk and express packages, installed office furniture, as well as being a salesman.
