Pedro Z. Garcia, SMSGT USAF (Ret) of Waco passed away on February 6, 2024, in Waco, Texas. A private family graveside service will take place 11:00 AM, February 13, 2024, at Laurel Land Cemetery in Fort Worth, Texas.
Pedro was born on October 18, 1930, at El Rancho “La Resaca” in the state of Tamaulipas, Mexico. He spent the early years of his life helping around the small dairy and going to school. At the age of eleven, he received his USA residence and he immigrated to the United States. He lived and attended school in Brownsville, Texas. Before his 18th birthday, he enlisted in the US Air Force. He retired from the US Air Force after serving more than twenty years in a military career that included several state-side assignments and two tours of duties overseas. He served during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He held a deep and silent pride, that while on active duty, he was nominated and selected to serve a tour of duty in a tri-command unit in a highly classified program within the Department of Defense.
Upon retiring from the military, he joined the Army and Air Force Exchange Service in the Logistics and Transportation Division. He served twenty years in the AAFES Fort Worth Distribution Center. In the summer of 1989, he followed his employer to Waco, Texas to take part in the opening and expansion of the AAFES Waco Distribution Center. He retired from AAFES in December 1994. Pedro was a long-time member of the American Legion.
Pedro was preceded in death by his wife, Ofelia C. Garcia, son, Roland Garcia, step-father, Antonio J. Quintero; mother, Julia G. Quintero; sister, Lupita and her husband Charlie Sifuentes, and two grandchildren. He is survived by his children, Christina G. Tejada of Brownsville, Mary E. Garcia of Waco, Esmeralda Stanfill and husband Mark of Waco, Theresa F. Jordan of Fort Worth, and Lawrence J. Garica of Waco. 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers: Lawrence P. Garcia, Jaxon Stanfill, Jeramy Jordan, Tony Lebrato, and Jacob Garcia.
Honorary pallbearers: Levi Stanfill, Reno Stanfill, Jason Jordan, and Joseph Garcia.
