Born in Wellington, TX on March 9, 1936 to Era and Vannie Mars, she was one of seven children. Laveeda met and married Charles E. Huff in 1955, becoming a military wife and eventually, the mother of five children. In 1976, Laveeda re-entered the work force at GC Murphy in Hampton, VA and moved to JC Penney where she transferred to the Ridgmar store, which she retired from, when her husband retired from the military and relocated to Fort Worth, TX. In addition to working, Laveeda became involved with the Boy Scouts, through her grandson, and flourished in the organization; enjoying camping, retreats, watching her Cub Scouts cross over and later, assisted the Longhorn Council in whatever way she could.
Laveeda loved traveling. Be it abroad with her JC Penney coworkers, chaperoning her granddaughter’s choir trips to New York and Germany, trips with the Travis Avenue Praise Singers (member of) or just gathering up the grandchildren and hitting the road to some location she had read about in the newspaper or a magazine, she loved it and never stopped cutting out places of interest she wanted to see.
Another love of Laveeda’s was her flowers. She would work in her flowerbeds all day long and took great pride in them. She enjoyed when neighbors would stop and let her know how beautiful her flowers were and considered it a challenge to do bigger and better the following year.
Laveeda, affectionately known as Granny, loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Easter slumber parties with egg dyeing and egg hunts (still finding eggs in the backyard from this year), Halloween parties with pumpkin carving or birthday parties in her backyard, Granny loved it all and felt such pride in watching her grandchildren grow up, graduate and start lives of their own.
Predeceased by her parents, Era and Vannie Mars; husband Charles Huff; daughter Jeannette Smith; brothers Kenneth Mars, William Mars, Buddy Mars; sisters Laverne Eakins, Evelyn Mars, she is survived by: Sister Nancy Sue Phillips of Pittsburg; daughters Pamela Huff of North Richland Hills, Kimberley Kimble of Benbrook, Debra Moore (husband James “favorite son-in-law”) of Benbrook; son Russell Huff (wife Rene’) of Canton, GA; grandchildren Christopher Huff, Krystle Kimble, Dustin Smith, Coy Smith, Lindsey Huff, Savannah Huff; and many nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.
