Mary Ruth Bradley was born on January 9, 1927 in Chattanooga, TN to the parents of William Junius and Mary Francine Bradley. She was the middle child of three children. Mary Ruth attended school in Chattanooga, TN where she graduated from Howard High School. She continued her education and received a license in Cosmetology from the Tennessee State Board and pursued her LPN from the New Jersey State Board of Nursing. Mary Ruth worked at Saint Joseph Hospital until she retired. She also partnered in a business with her brother as a mortician, performing cosmetics and hairstyling for the deceased.
Mary Ruth married Emory King with whom she shared 34 years of love and partnership while raising 5 children with grace and wisdom.
Mary Ruth was a devoted Christian and was a member of Beth Eden Missionary Baptist Church for 40 plus years.
Mary Ruth was known for her compassion, strength and sense of humor. She had a special way of making everyone feel loved and valued, whether through her warm smile, wise words, or the countless meals she lovingly prepared.
Mary Ruth is preceded in death by her husband Emory King, sister Joann Bradley and brother Frank Bradley and sister in law Thelma Bradley.
Her legacy is carried on by her family who will always cherish her memory and the lessons she imparted about love, resilience, and generosity.
Mary Ruth is survived by her children Deborrah Carter, Emery King, Yvonne Cummings (Carl), Junius Andre King, and Olga Ellis; 13 grand-children and 13 great-grand-children.
She also leaves behind numerous friends and loved ones that will miss her dearly.
