Marjorie Lowe Mitchell passed away at the age 93 on September 23, 2017 with two of her nieces at her side. She was born in Mitchell, SD, but grew up in Southern California where she maintained numerous lifelong friends. Marjorie worked in Alaska for a short time as a Lumber camp cook. She joined the ambulance and defense corps of America at the start of World War II. She joined the Navy when she returned from Alaska but was discharged one week later on V-J Day.
She married GC Mitchell on April 18, 1948 in Las Vegas. GC was in the battle of Pearl Harbor and he remained in the Navy. He served in many ports and Marge continued her government work. The Mitchells returned to the Dallas Naval Air Station where GC retired from the Navy on January 1, 1660.
GC and Marge started their own business in Arlington which was a major success for many years. They loved being in business together and made great partners in everything. Marge was so proud of GC and it always showed. She was a very warm and gracious hostess and loved having guest so GC could entertain with stories of his travels. The bond between Marge and GC was a very special one between special people.
Marge Mitchell’s positive attitude will be sorely missed and no one had a more delightful smile at the sight of a friend.
