Margie Smith

Growing up in Cumby, her Dad was a barber and farmer. Mother, Ruth, was a homemaker, farm hand, etc. Their Grandpa Baker lived with them growing up. On their family farm, they raised cotton, vegetables and a variety of animals. She loved all the animals, and Shorty was her riding horse. On Sunday’s after church for special occasions, they would go to Greenville or Sulphur Springs. After leaving Cumby, she lived in Fort Worth, and worked at Carswell AFB and Century Insurance until she met her husband, Buster Smith. She met him while at Buster’s Camp on Eagle Mountain Lake with friends. He asked her to go dancing at the Rocket Dance Hall on 199, and they were married about a year later. They ran Buster’s Camp (Now Augie’s) which back then was a fishing camp until 1964 when the moved to Port Aransas, Texas. There they owned Mustang Cottages and lived there until 1980 when they moved to Newark, Texas. She lived there until 2014.

She loved to fish both on Eagle Mountain Lake and in Port Aransas (Gulf of Mexico). She loved her sister and brothers who all resided in Fort Worth, so she always stayed in contact or tried to get together with them at least once a year. She was loved to dance, bowl and do anything outdoors. There was always a twinkle in her eye and a big smile on her face. She had a really good since of sense of humor and loved a good joke. She was also known for being quite stubborn and having a big heart. She loved to grill out doors with charcoal or wood chips.
